    L300 or L300A

Does anyone know how you can distinguish between an L300 or an L300A. Before you say is has been posted, I did see where a technical manual was given as a reference. I am talking about just looking at a pair.

According to the JBL website, the L300 was only made in 1975 and 1976. I have seen 10-15 pair over the past few months on the internet but the foilcal says L300. Does the foilcal read L300A on the L300A? If the foilcal reads L300A, I wonder why I have not seen one with L300A, since should have been many more of these made between 1977 and 1982?

Also, would the foilcal on the mid horn lense be different?

    Thanks
    Scott

Look for an "A" after the serial number. :dont-know

I always thought the only difference was the LF driver, either 136A or 136H (in the 300A), or Alnico versus ferrite. Do you find there to be a great difference between the two?

    Just purchased some L300A

Thanks for your input BMWCCA. I just purchased a pair of L300A speakers yesterday. I was not sure if they were L300 or L300A, but I saw an "A" on the foilcal as you suggested. They are in great shape, however they need a re-foam and glass for the top.

I have only had a couple of hours of listening at this point and so far, it is a close call on which sounds better, my Carver Amazing Platinums Mark IV or the JBL L300A.

    Thanks again.

    Hey, Scott,

I'd caution you about playing your new L300A's, if the woofers need a refoam! Too much of a good thing can damage the woofers, if not supported properly by a good, new foam surround. For what it's worth....

I can recommend our own Edgewound, to do the work for you. He's a JBL specialist, and does a fantastic job in refoaming and reconing JBL's!! Take care, and God Bless!
