Too many audiophiles listen with their eyes instead of their ears
I don't have exposure to the many different systems that you have, well actually I do if you count pro SR and studio related gear like Westlake and SOTA. But to me, there is a JBL signature sound. Yes their line up features many different characters of speakers that all sound different but, they all have a commonality between them that I would characterize as articulation combined with dynamic realism. The thing I like the most about JBL (studio monitors) is their "forward voicing" --again a part of that signature sound. That said, 4430's and 4435's are not voiced properly (forward) so I never liked them for mixing. A better listening speaker IMO.
BTW getting back to the original thread, I would guess that Classical music does sound fairly good on 4430's. Never tried it as I unloaded the system which was only used for work. If anyone has, I would like to hear your thoughts.
Well yes... but, this is an equipment forum not a music appreciation forum, or how to live one's life forum. Of course if there was no music there would be no need for this equipment, but in the narrow scope of this forum, it is precisely the equipment that is important.
I certainly don't dispute that often times we seem to place a greater importance on the gear than the music, but even here as with most audio equipment magazines, we do have areas to discus the music itself sans the gear.
