General question about serial numbers >>>

I'm not sure if I should post this in the Serial Number Registry sticky or not but here goes...

How desirable is it to have a pair of JBLs with consecutive (or at least "close") cabinet serial numbers? Is this a factor in determining the market value of a pair?

Also, why would the serial numbers of two speakers in a pair sometimes be separated by a considerable amount? For example, I'm looking at a pair of L112s; one has a cabinet serial number of something like 38XXX while the other is 63XXX. How could this be? Is it possible that the 63XXX was manufactured several years later, as a replacement for a damaged unit? I don't think JBL even MADE that many speakers!

serial numbers are rarely in direct relationship with the amount of manufactured products but rather like code numbers (week number, year, production place, ...)
