Silver plated steel parts in vintage JBL?

Does anyone know: was it standard for JBL to silver-plate the steel in their AlNiCo motors? The LE8T has a silver shorting ring, probably plated on (on the polepiece) and the other vintage JBLs I've owned all have what looks like silver oxide on the top plates (whitish coating).

    Does anyone know?

That's the type of thing Steve Schell would know .

    - FWIW, the product literature in the library states that the 2470 & 2420 had "pure silver" impedance controlling rings .
    - My product cut sheet ( for the 2425 ) says of the 2425 ; " A machined ring of pure silver surrounds the pole piece ,,," snip ,,,etc.
    - The 2426 had a copper plated impedance controlling ring .

    - I've always preferred the 2426 over the 2425 ( despite the latter having this silver content ) .
