Foaming a 2012H....??

Anybody want to chime in on this thought?

Suppose I dissected a NOS 2012H and replaced the cloth surround with a foam surround?

The Xmax would be more than the 2122H...

The Pmax is a lot more too...

It would retrofit into the big monitors...

(even though the polarity is backwards)...

and it has a black frame!

just stumbled over you ages-old post here.

Did you ever do it?
If so, how did it work our balance-wise compared to 2122s in your "big monitor" (4343B or 4344, i guess?)

I found your post interesting as i was also driven by Sacrilege-ous thoughts

The long gap and a reference i found here on the forum to the LE15 ('coz the huge magnet, i guess) plus the thought of getting a new underhung 10" done (your pictures)

spurred my fantasy.
Guess the .4" long coil of the 2123 if in a suitable position on the cone (i.e. if just by chance placed along the middle of a 2012 gap) would make for a nice underhung design to follow the impossible-to-find underhung 2122.

And maybe take away from the 2012H that strong rise in response towards 2 kHz at the same time
