online JBL reviews (+much vintage gear)

    .
happened across this review site. (new to me) .. lots of vintage gear.

    JBL 250Ti Speaker System Review
    http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/jbl-250ti-511.html

    JBL L100T Speaker System Review
    http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/jbl-l100t-167.html

    JBL L46 Speaker System Review
    http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/jbl-l46-280.html

JBL XPL 140 Speaker System Review
    http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/jbl-xpl-140-24.html

and of course I had to lookup some of my non-JBL speakers.

    quotes:

    ADS L1290

After only a brief exposure to the ADS L1290's in our listening room, however, we had no doubt of their superior sound quality. The subsequent validation of this judgment by our test instruments was a reassuring demonstration that sometimes speakers measure the way they sound!

The L1290 has an unusually flat and smooth response over the full audio range and a half octave beyond, excellent dispersion in the forward hemisphere, and bass distortion lower than that of any common program source except a digital tape or disc. It is a genuinely fine speaker that is representative of the current state of the art in dynamic speaker-system design.

    OHM Walsh's:

The Walsh was a very fine-performing unit. Its sound was surprisingly neutral, to the point that we were hardly aware we were listening to speakers, and this is one of the greatest compliments one could pay to a loudspeaker.

What an odd site. I didn’t dig too deeply into it, but it seems kind of like an ‘80s print magazine dumped on line. I couldn’t find any information about the site, who they are, where they are, or even why they exist.

How did you discover the site?

As I said of the site.. "new to me" . Came up on a Google search.

Their reviews that I read on gear that are known to me seemed pretty accurate.

And YES, the reviews did seem to be mostly 80's models.

80's models for sure, but they seem to be written during that time period as well. Look at the AR turntable review for example.

The reviews are a little too "Stereo Review" for my taste, but it is an interesting archive. Thanks for sharing it.

I'd bet they are Stereo Review reprints. They look just like Julian Hersch.
    KEEP ON LISTENING!

IF they are, then should be attributed as such.

When the text says "we" found this or that or measured XXX , then it
would help to know who the "we" is ?

As Mr.W noted, I also could not find the who, what, where behind the site.

The L100t and XPL140 reviews were published by Stereo Review. It can be presumed the others are as well since they are all in the same format.

My guess is that someone has taken the Stereo Review archive and claimed the data as their own to sell all of the numerous banner ads that pop up on that site.

Since Sound & Vision, the follow up publication to Stereo Review still exists, I'm surprised they haven't tried to stop the apparent piracy.
