    Array 1400 amplifier wattage

I'm currently looking to get some new amps for my Array 1400's. I'm tempted by the Musical Fidelity KW750 but I've noticed the JBL tech info states max amp size 300W for these speakers.

I've always erred towards overpowered solid state amps to mitigate any potential damage from clipping on transient peaks so, am I risking damage by going with this amp?

I don't play music excessively loud but I do like to occasionally listen to classical music at volumes close to concert level.

I doubt you'll overpower the speakers as they'll likely be hurting you before you hurt them... but 750W??? Seems like you may be paying for more than you need.

As long as you're not trying to fill a large meeting hall (ahem).

It has been demonstrated that nice JBL's can be damaged with too much power...
even quality power. IIRC, it was a crossover component that gave up first. Not
sure if we heard the end to that story...

Thats what I thought, I don't want to go deaf so the amp will be running class A most of the time but can deliver on big transients when required.
As for cost, I could pay more for less watts with a Pass amp but I still think having the headroom is not a bad thing.

Do you have the opportunity to AB a couple of amps? At the end of the spectrum you are talking about, I'd want to do some taste testing before the checkbook came out.

    arrays 1400 are 89db sensitive

so 100 watts would be 20db aprox in gain

at what distance do you sit to hear them lets say 4meters

89+20 =109 at one meter 103 at two meters 97 at 4 meters

that a lot of volume even if you want more lets say 6db for transients that's 400watts and 101db at your position

that's thinking you are in free field condition but you are in a room so that will be at least 6 more db at low freq.

if you want louder it will be probable you need it in the bass region and not the highs to keep it balanced

buy a 300 or 400watt amp and with the extra cash buy an array 1500 sub
