    L-96 Midrange Out

One of the midranges on my L-96 decided to crap out. At first there was a sound that came out that was similar to what you'd get from a dirty pot, kind of that scratchy sound, usually when in idle. Now no sound comes out and the blessed thing seems fused to the cabinet. I am wondering what I can do to troubleshoot and a good way to get that sucker out.

    Thanks,
    Roundsound

1st you must remove the LE5 and verify that it is really cooked. Cooked LE5s are pretty rare. Simply drive a blade under the speaker flange to break it loose, stay away from the wires with the blade.

Edited to add: Set your blade under either flange corner opposite from the 2 wire nubs in the cone. There, if the blade slips and goes too far, it only hits the aluminum basket.

Drop me a PM if the mid checks out as being cooked... I just acquired an 044, LE5-12, and LE10H-1 woofer that I don't really need. The LE5 looks pretty good although I haven't metered or swept it yet.

Use soft wood and a plastic/rubber hammer to gently tap without causing marring or chipping. It will pop loose. Please don't pry drivers with metal tools.
