2240 or not?

I just obtained two nice JBL frames, but there is no info printed on them; The former owner had no idea either;

18" frames, 4" vc, 19.25mm vc height, and the airgap measures 1.47 mm. Closest match i could find are the 2240's.

the old/torn cones have got some aquaplas on the back (about 1/3rd of the cone (from the center) feels like my aquaplas equiped JBL woofers)

Can anyone please confirm if this is correct or not?

and are their still recones available for the 2245H woofers?

That is the OEM ( naked ) version of the 2240. it is the same basket as the 2245 and E155 and the kits are interchangeable

...not sure where your baskets originated but there was a seller in Penn. recently that was selling 100 pairs of dead 2240s for $50 a pair, so perhaps yours came from this batch.

I bought a dead pair a few months ago and had them re-coned into 2245s.

Apparently, the 2240 kits are $75 or so higher than the 2245 kits.

The 2240 has a folded surround and are more accustically efficient than the 2245s that have a foam surround. Many I have talked to indicate the 2245s really need some big power to drive well, so consider that when you re-cone.

100 pairs?! that means the last 2245 cone will be all gone soon i guess.

I was hoping for a 2240; i was looking to recone them to a 2245, but the c8r2245 seems to be getting rare..

so the 2245 is actually $75 cheaper than the 2240?

...well I cannot speak for the inventory levels of 2245 re-cone kits available at JBL.

The 2240 series is older so the re-cone kits are priced $75 or so higher. I think this price difference is to discourage rebuilding older drivers but I can't vouch for that logic. If your re-coner has difficulty getting the 2245 kits - consider the more efficient 2240 kits, I suppose.

There is much to benefit from high efficiency.

In general, the 18 woofers are very capable drivers that you should enjoy for many years.

Good luck and avoid aftermarket kits as they blow!

the 2240 and 2245 were concurrent models. where do you get the "older" info idea?? Making guesses only confuses.

JBL bases it's recone kit prices (now) on demand so the 2245's, which are in demand more than the 2240's, are less.

Same for the 2235 / 2225

Does the black CA / 2K type of glue comes with the cones?

I have reconed several JBL midranges/tweeters of the 4311B, but these came with a rubber/flexible brown glue, not the kind of glue you want to use on the dustcap of woofers. I heard/read the black glue is a CA kind of glue? wasn't able to find this info on this forum.

Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) JBL recone kits are sold only to JBL techs who are specifically trained to perform this work....

I would not advise buying aftermarket kits that are availible to the general public for your re-cone job but others here can explain that issue better than me.

Since the US dollar is still relatively low compared with other Eurpean currencies including the mighty Euro, consider that you will be getting a "discount" for your offical JBL recone work.... Do this and save yourself a ton of grief.

Disclaimer: I've done very limited work on speakers, certainly no recones. But I do use a fair amount of various types of CA glue, including rubber toughened CA. Be warned that I have no idea as to the applicability of this type of glue in speaker repairs.
