Is anyone here a hartsfield owner or ever heard a set? I am building a totally custom hartsfield and would like some feedback.

If you would use the SEARCH option above you will find 12 pages of Hartsfield related subject matter. I would suggest that FIRST you try and find a pair to audition before you tackle the construction project. The cabinets can be a bit of a challenge depending on your skill level and tool availability. The proper components can also be costly and sometimes difficult to find.
The Hartsfields do have their own distinctive sound that can be quite pleasing. The best combination that I found was using a small tube amp. There is something about tubes and horns.

Here are the pair I sold to a forum member last year. Because they are corner horns, they didn't require nearly as much floor space as the replacements. Good luck with the project.

No, they are not CAR models. I did however use the same set of 1959 JBL plans that they use. The veneer is a rotary cut Bubinga AKA Kevazinga. I decided to use Baltic birch plywood and maple hardwood throughout instead of the (Timberblend) particleboard and pine. I also added a pair of 075's to the LE15A's and 2441 combo.

Woody's Hartsfield today with some minor changes:
1) New lenses
2) Replace 075s with 077s (Blue diaphragm)
3) TrueExtend Be 4" Diaphragms
4) New Extreme Slope Xovers. Xover points @ 800Hz & 8 KHz

i see these are new style...bet they sound great. i added a little fiberglass to my cavity in my top loaders made em a little less boomy. they sound great

hi. i just built a set of early of rear loaded hartsfields.
be prepared for a lot of work. they took me about three months of very diligent work to get them finished.be aware that they are large speakers and you need room for them.i have over the years built a lot of cabinets including jbl 4530 and jbl 4560 type designs and the hartsfields were the most work by far.almost every cut you make is a complex angle. if you want to move them get help. they are very heavy. there are approx three sheets of plywood in each one and about 75 lbs of speakers.i am using e 140 woofers and 2441 horn drivers. the 4530's sound almost as good and the ones i used oak plywood for look real good.plus way lighter.mega less work.would i buld them again...no...too much work

i built an early set...a lot of work and very heavy.note they are larger than you think make sure you have a lot of room in your house.
