Hi,
Great site!
I like the JBL E-120 speakers for electric guitar. What does it mean when I see one and the center metal cap that is usually silver (aluminum?) in color, is instead black. Kind of a satiny black, not shiny like dope.
Thanks!

I've often seen them spray-painted. My E-140 has a spray-painted satin black dustcap.

Heh, no, my playing is not likely to do anything dramatic to the speaker.
The finish looks too regular to be spray paint. Almost like it was anodized. Are the ones for recones ever black?
Hi, The aluminum center caps on JBL instrument speakers highlighted the high frequency response a little, more high end. Fabric caps pretty much remain neutral, not adding to the freq. resp. of the speaker. Take a small knife or something and see if yours were painted. Aluminum caps are pretty tthick, be carefull. Does the paint affect the sound?
