I use the RS meter as but only as a starting point. After that I just listen and adjust by ear.. for most Movie Sound tracks I need to lower the volume but otherwise the RS setting works out quite well.

For most systems the "right setting" is quite different for a stereo music playback system vs. a surround system. As far as I know there is no definitive answer to the question of correct balance as different industry experts seem to have different preferences. Basically I agree with Allan, your best tool is to use your ears. I would suggest you set your sub(s) by ear while listening to a wide range of material that you like... if you optimize it for only one movie or piece of music, it will likely sound wrong with half of your discs.

That's one of the realities that brought two Performance Series rigs into my house. While the PS sounds great on music and great on movies, it doesn't sound its best on both with only one "correct" setting.

The HT 7.1 rig is seven "smalls" (PT800s and PC600) and four subs.

The music 5.1 rig is two "larges" (PS full-range stacks), three "smalls" and a sub.
    Out.
