Reconing a 2240 into a 2245, what else changes?

Greetings- I have a chance to purchase a pair of 2240 that need a recone locally at a decent price. I read here that a 2240 can be reconed as a 2245. This may be a stupid question, but will the reconed 2240 take on all of the same parameters as a stock 2245? In other words, will the effeciency drop from 98 Db to 95 Db, and the low end of the FR from 30Hz to 20Hz? Thanks for your help. wpod

2240 and 2245 have identical baskets and difference is in the recone itself only.

It will be a 2245 with PROPER recone kit!

Yes....the speaker will indeed become a 2245....only with a genuine JBL C8R2245H recone kit. As Spkrman57 said....the 2240 and 2245 frames are absotively, posilutely indentical.

OK, so I have a pair of dead 2240s also. So if I have them reconed into 2245s these are the differences; right?

• Loss of about 5 db or more of sensativity in 2245 form
• Increased low end frequency response?

Yes.

A 2240 rock and roll woofer - "high power, medium range"

a 2245 hi-fi reproducer woofer - "medium power, extended range"

I use 2240's alot. But for home or shop hi-fi, the 2245's are the way to go!!!

Just recone the driver into a 2245 and don't look back!
