    Two Channel Amplifier

I'm currently looking for a high quality two channel amplifier that can drive a pair of JBL Control 28 speakers, and with the added possibility of accommodating a pair of JBL Control 18S subwoofers.

This amplifier needs to have enough headroom to prevent any chance of clipping with the four speakers. I'd also prefer to have a budget limit of $200, but I'd be open to spending more if the difference in quality is noticeable.

Here are some specifications of the speakers I'm planning to use.

    JBL Control 28

    • Nominal Impedance:
    8 ohm
    • Power Capacity:
    175W Continuous Program
    • Frequency Range:
    55 Hz to 20 kHz (–10 dB)
    • Sensitivity:
    92 dB SPL
    • Crossover Frequency:
    JBL Control 18S

    • Nominal Impedance:
    8 ohm
    • Power Capacity:
    200W Continuous Program
    100W Continuous Pink Noise
    • Frequency Range:
    46 Hz – 180 Hz (–10 dB)
    • Sensitivity:
    95 dB SPL
    • Network Filter to Subwoofer: 12 dB/oct low-pass, 160 Hz
    • Filter to Satellite Outputs: 6 dB/oct high-pass, 160 Hz
This system will be strictly used for music, and fed via RCA inputs.

If anyone could offer their help, I'd appreciate it. It's been a while since I purchased something like this, and I'd like to think I'm making a smart investment.

    Hi Jon

Maybe the Crown CTs600 might be up your alley but I know you’re like me where not made of money nor do we have money tree growing in the back-garden. I’d look under Google Product Search you’ll find the lowest of all prices in next to no time. But even at £583.98p I’m not running a flipping cinema hare and as much as I’d like to play the (national lottery) and win a few bob. So I have to compromise the Alesis RA300 that I’m running is fine and if you what to try the Alesis RA500 Santa Monica CA I’d think it would suit the requirements just fine and they don’t cost the earth.

Compare the US dollar prices under (Google Product Search) screw Google main page.

Did you read the reviews on that page? But then Crutchfield offers a free return policy if you're not happy with it.

Yes I have, as well as the Amazon reviews. They seem positive.

I was reading this early this morning about running with 500 watts and it makes perfect logical sense to me because of the headroom extension on the amplifier it’s going to be almost impossible to clip.

I think the one unhappy fellow out of the three is sorta full of it. Probably snobby high end cable guy with little metal pyramids under all his gear.

Honestly, you can find some decent amps from Partsexpress too
Why buy used when you can build your own?
