This new thread began life as an off topic discourse from another thread...

    I am good.....and you?

These Eq's have some very interesting features. The most usefull being the ability to adjust from a broad or narrow Parametric to a Graphic type filter.

I can appreciate that Sampson is not known for high quality components but like the Phonic PAA2and PAA3, they did a very good job on this series. The optional A102 Balanced Boards (very hard to find) make a huge difference in over all quality. They cost more than the D-3500 itself.

Prior to getting my latest Deqx I used a Benchmark Dac1 as a preamp. The balanced outs from the Dac1 were routed through the 3500 and on to the Marsh 400 amps. Very clean and dynamic.

For the price.....you would not be dissapointed.

Oh, and this one has a black face plate rather than the ugly blue.

Another one? Did you get the PDC HDP-3 this time?

    Hi Widget

I bought 2 of them. The new one as well as one of the prototypes. Got them both for a very good price. I have since sold the HDP-3 as I prefer the price of the 2.6P. With all the mods done to it.....it sounds better anyway. Its loaded with very high end parts to numerous to mention here. Only some of the mods made it to the release of the HDP-3.

I wouldn't expect anything less from you.

So, do you prefer the digital sound of the new DEQX to the Benchmark?

I would be happy to post photos of the prototype although I agreed not to release details or part values. For those that have seen or owned a 2.6P, you will see a great deal of the surface parts removed and replaced by through hole components, including some 56 op amps. The new Burr Brown OPA627's and OPA2604's (balanced input/output sections) were described as isolated through a dual buffering and bypassing circuit design. The digital section has been modified at both input and output stages. The PS has also been modified. The re-design of the analog input and output sections required some re-routing of the grounding sections of the circuit. There are a great deal of polystyrene film capacitors and electrolytic's used throughout the new system.

Having owned a pair of stock units in the past I can honestly say the prototype is far supperior in performance (in every way). One can literaly run the volume to max with an open source and no signal present without hearing anything a couple of feet away. It is to say the least, dead quiet. I could get more detailed re performance if anyone is interested.

PS: I am working on a pair of Westlake SM1's.......wish me luck in scoring them! Could be the final quest
