2440 - 6db crossover

Hello,

can anybody tell me if it is ok to use a 2440 driver/2350 horn with a 6db/500HZ crossover (for home use, no pa) or might this overstress the diaphragm suspensions ?

I am sure there are others who are far more knowledgeable than me, who will no doubt chime in here, but my understanding is that they were designed for a 12dB/octave slope at 500 Hz. Be careful.

Using a first order 6db network @ 500hz will allow the driver to go down too low. These drivers normally were recommended to be used with 12 or 18db slopes.

If you do use a 6db slope you will have to be very careful, but IMHO you wont get the optimum performance from the 2440.

at moderate levels, you can use 6dB/oct, but it is wise to lay the x-over frequency at around 800 hz. Most woofers have no problem with the higher x-over frequency, but the compression driver will be far less stressed. Sometimes a simple 6 dB/oct design can sound surprisingly "good". Anyway, experimenting with passive crossovers will end up with an expensive collection of caps and coils and its not easy to A/B the different designs. With an active crossover it´s simple to get the right x-over frequencies and you can play around with different x-over slopes. Once you got the "right" settings, you can still build the passive x-overs. Good luck and let us know your experience,
