    Replacement grills

Hi, I'm very new to the vintage stereo field...

Regarding replacement speaker grills, what is the best way of replacing a damaged/broken (or missing altogether) speaker grill? Does JBL still sell replacements? Or is the only avenue searching on eBay, Craigslist etc.? I can't imagine that many grills are sold alone.

    It depends on the model.

In the past they did. If you are lucky you might still get a replacement for some of the pro models, but very few if any are left.

Again, it really depends on the model. If it is a carved wood grille they come up fairly regularly... if it is a foam grille, they are available as reproductions... if it is a simple cloth grille, you might consider making a new frame and covering it yourself.

    Thanks for the reply.

I came across the Foam Trends site, I will contact them, and see what they say. This grill is damaged, and was repaired, but is still not 100%.

First - it would help to know what model of speaker you are looking for foam grills for ...

Do NOT use the ebay vendor with the username "foamtrends"

that ebay seller is a fraud and is NOT associated with the Lansing Heritage folks here that sell foam grills.

Go directly to the website for the REAL Foam Trends

I opted for a grey pair for an L100 set I sold this summer ...

But they sell all the original colors and some new stuff as well!

If you need the grill frames to support the foam, they have them as well.

What cabinets do you need grilles for? Here's a set on eBay for L100T's : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=019

Sorry, I should have given the model. They are L80Ts. I came across speakerworks.com, and they have a black grill fabric that looks like it would be a good match. The grill frame is apparently in one piece, just the fabric needs replacement. I would do both, obviously, so they would match each other perfectly.

Does anyone have any experience with the black speakerworks fabric? Is it a good match to the original factory JBL fabric?

It's "foam-trends" that was reported to be extorting on the frame jig.

If you're going to take shots at people, at least get it right.

Foam-trends wasn't simply "reported", their ad was visible on ebay at the time ... pretty cut and dry, it was blatant that the ebay user was playing off the common name Indycraft and his partner use for their business, dashed or not.

The conversation on grilles here tppk place on the 22nd - 4 days ago - thats when the info was needed, and the right info was exchanged - they found the Foam Trends website and made the contact - your comments are 4 days late ...

But its a moot point point anyway - wu6fiend said the speakers were L60T - and neither Indy-craft nor Sonofagun make grills for L80T speakers
