My joy in getting a pair of great-looking Model 19s this weekend turned into dismay because one of the speakers was silent in a first run (the other sounded quite nice). After doing the requisite cable and connection checks, channel changes, etc, I opened up the 'attenuator' panels and found that the air core inductors look like they have completely corroded - they look awfully gloopy.
The seller has offered a partial refund which should cover parts and labor cost if I can find a local tech who knows what to do (but the speakers are in the deep countryside in Japan).
I have the crossover schematic, but it will mean little to me without spending some time with an electronics textbook.
I have no qualms with getting a soldering iron and trying it myself, but would love to have some sort of a 'recipe' to guide me.
A couple of questions:
1) Is a self-done rebuild easily enough accomplished if one has a little expert guidance from the knowledgeable folk on the forum?
2) Does anyone have a "parts list" for a Model 19 crossover?
3) Is there an easy/cheap way to get them rebuilt to original specs? I have read posts in the past about Iconic crossovers but the website has little info, the price info I have seen in previous threads is old, and not terribly cheap. I may go that route eventually but would like to get them making some kind of music quickly.
4) What are my other choices?
Thanks in advance...
