Sure Looks Like an H92 to Me!

I looked at this thing "six ways to Sunday" and measured it on screen every which way as best I could and kept coming to the same conclusion.

Was I supposed to tell the seller (and the world)? For the cost, I'll chance it.

Yah, das ist ein H92/2312. I am unaware of any imperative to inform. I've got mine installed (check my DIY thread)...how are yours going? P.S. Wrap 'em in crack insulation putty.

I've made and painted the dog houses to cover the holes on back of the L200 cabinets. I'll probably get them installed in the next couple weeks depending on work load. (I'm working on the Environmental Impact Report for the new NFL stadium.)

I'm debating on using this third H92 in my center cabinet, or adding an extension to an H91 and retaining the H87 perforated plate.

If I retain the perforated plate with the extension, I end up with a horn that is the same length as the H92 and can use the existing cut-out in the cabinet. It would be nice not to have to modify the cabinet.

On the other hand, if I use the H92 in the center cabinet, it would be an exact match for the L/R cabinets, except that I would have no way to put a lens on it (unless I do substantial modification to the grill stand-offs or attach it to the grill cloth).

Also, in this case, the horn would replace the 4" port at the top center of the cabinet and this would put it at about the same height as the L/R, which would obviously be a positive aspect. I currently plug the port in the corner, so replacement of the center port with the horn would not change the cabinet tuning as I could just remove this plug. (The W15GTI is in its own 4 cu ft cabinet and uses the other cornet port.) I would then put a block-off plate where the perforated plate is and put my crossover controls on the block-off plate. The crossover controls are currently accessed by reaching into the cabinet through the center port.

My woodworking friend has not yet come up with the horn extension (not a high priority for him), so at this point, I'm leaning toward the latter. Still, it would be nice to hear how the extension would sound on both an H91 AND and H92 and there is room in that cabinet for an extended H92.

Actually, I was thinking of coating them with the liquid rubber stuff used for dipping tool handles in. I try to keep my speakers off crack. It over-accenuates the highs and lows.

At that price, I figured that even if it was an H91, and I were to use the extension to make up the length of an H92, I wouldn't have to break up my pair of H91s that are coming out of the cabinets.

I find that liquid rubber coatings may stretch and expand the soundstage, however they also prevent the experience of ecstatic musical conceptions. Crack insulation putty on the other hand leads one to musical highs never dreamed of before.

I'll be most interested to hear what phase relationships you end up using with the longer horns.

Well, the horn arrived today. For those who doubted it (and you know who you are), yes it is in fact an H92 (or 2312). Gotta keep those eye open.

Wow, you are certainly right about these horns "ringing" when thumped. I find that the horn that has had its paint removed rings even a little more than my two that still have their paint. So even the paint helps to deaden this..., a little.

When I pull out the Behringer, I'll determine the ~frequency that this ringing manifests itself at. I can't imagine that it doesn't leave a sonic signiture and can see that this would benefit all those using an H92/2312.

As a rough test, I tried to compare the "ting" of a H91/2307 to a piano note...seemed to be up around 4KHz, though it's difficult to tell as the tone is so different from a piano note. I didn't test the H92/2312s before I installed them, but I would expect the resonant frequency to be a bit lower with the longer horn. Audible? Most likely at higher SPLs. My general rule is that if you can reduce spurious resonances for so little cost/time expenditure, it's a no-brainer. The music will thank you.
