JBL S9800 available in the USA?

I just got back from the Montreal hi-fi show this past weekend. In one room, JBL was showing off some stuff, including a single JBL S9800, and a big wood-veneered speaker, something-Ti (not 250Ti but in that vein... forget the #...)

I didnt' think the K2 S9800 was available in the US, and asked the reps about it - they were canadian but seemed to think that yes, it was available. I pretty much insisted it's never advertised or displayed so what do they mean about available? they didn't have more info but stood by what they said... (good luck ordering some maybe!)

In any case, it was rather lame in that they only had one of each of the above speakers, and only on static display. If they were not so lazy and brought a pair of each and actually had them playing, they would have slain whatever other rubbish *was* playing that room. (it was uninteresting enough to not even recall what it was).

Anyway, so - are those speakers available in the US or not? or in Canada?

    thanks
    -Ed

    cool, thanks!

    Thanks for the info guys!

the Ti10k was the other one on display.

Still, lame they weren't playing them, but not surprising given the complete lack of marketing of these in the states.

WTF is up with JBL as regards to this? Serious deficiency with harman running (or trying to) the show...

Figures... US company makes a great product(s), doesn't even sell/market in the states where their rabid fans are... and we wonder why the economy sucks...

    (argh!)

Don't even get us started on this one again!

The bottom line is that if you want to spend $25,000 for some very fine speakers JBL will sell them to you through their Synthesis dealer network, but you will have to work to audition them. I bet if you were serious, JBL would let you hear them in their incredible demo room at the factory in Northridge.

At $25,000 they can fly them to my house for an audition.

    In the middle

That seems to be around the middle of the price range for high priced speakers. as the wilson watt/puppys are 24,000 for version 7 and that is only thier 2nd speaker up from the bottom. Or a dynaudio evidence master at 50,000.
Oh well back to my L250's

    Tahts JBL.

JBL does have some high performance, good stuff. But it costs, which in itself isnt such a problem, but actual availability can be.

JBL does the same thing at the AES show! They have static displays of their goods, while other companies have full demo rooms and booths with speakers and electronics you can hear and play with.. And when you ask JBL reps why they havent anything setup to listen to they have attitude.

If Dynaudio, TAD, and Genelec can have full blown demos with their speakers, so should JBL!

"JBL does the same thing at the AES show! They have static displays of their goods, while other companies have full demo rooms and booths with speakers and electronics you can hear and play with..

Ok... here's the scoop. JBL is a kind and benevolent entity. They know full well that if they were to actually hook their gear up at such a public display so other manufacturers could actually hear the JBL gear against their own gear the result would be mass suicide amongst the other manufacturers. It'd be a f@#&*!$ mess!

"And when you ask JBL reps why they havent anything setup to listen to they have attitude."

If they ain't goin' out there with source material, they may as well go out there with attitude.
