    S1S vs S1S-EX

    Hei

After my "burn out" on the K2s I am on my way to buy 4 S1S just to get some of the load of them
Of the four S1S there is 2 good ones and 2 with elements that needs new a recone.
But I did also buy 5 new 2242H so I have been thinking of replacing all the elements in the S1S`s.

So does any one have a drawing of the cabinets and what is the difference between the S1S and S1S-EX ?
Or can I just drop the 2242 H in there and have fun ?

    STOP!

Buy a JBL 4645C. 1/3rd price but technically identical. Believe me, no joke!
You can contact me via PM if you need further support from "old europe".

    Thanks !

From what I can see the only difference is in tube configuration, how much would this have to say regarding the lower frequensis ?

The port tuning is the same.
The huge 4635C port just doesn't look so good

AFAIK know the S1S was retuned when the 2245 was changed to the 2242.

    New plans.

I have received my 2242H subs and I think that I will have to build my own cabinets.

Should I make copy's of the S1S or is there some thing better out there ?

They will be used in my home theatre.

    Good news.

The problem with the S1S is that it was not rigid enough. I agree with Guido that the pro version is better, but you can do better still. Build something like these:http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...ead.php?t=9812

I am not recommending the dual woofer aspect. but rather the construction technique. The inner MDF layer damps the enclosure, the birch gives it rigidity... and do not forget the heavy internal bracing.

Where the heck did the thumbs down come from ? if there should be any thumbs here at all it should be pointing up

    Good decision Loffen.

I'll have a 4645C here by the weekend and can measure the port. PM me so that I do not forget it.

I build my 4645C clones with 2 of these ports

Do not cut them and you have the same tuning than the huge 4645C port.
