    Exclamation Iwata Diy

    Hello,

I have an active 3 ways system. I a would like to improve m'y system by using two IWATA horn.

    I use:
    1 DCX 2496 (I'm upgrading !)
1 Ampli Sertec (for sub bass)

    2 QSC 850 med / high.
2 expo type JBL for Sub ( filter pass low 120Hz)
    2 Celestion for med (120Hz - 2,5Kz)
    2 Tweeter fane (2,5Khz-20Khz)

It seem that it will be good to replace my Celestions by two IWATA for a better stereo sound. (My sound is flat ! )

Is some have the schema to build two real IWAT myself ???

    Thank for your answer !

Phil Mundi is a member here, but he has not published IWATA plans. There are different horns:

Is the Celestion a compression driver? The IWATA is a horn without driver.

I given a call this afternoon to Phil Mundi, It coast 1500€ for two iwata.

It's too expenssive for me ! I would like to do my own IWATA with a good plan.

At the moment my Celection is a 31 cm (for guitare) used on mid frequ. I noted that's better to use only horn for more homogen system !

    Cited out of context :
    ... with a good plan.
What about a DIY horn from this forum, several have been discussed here. (You will need a compression driver.)

    It depends. -
Regarding costs what about a cone driver with a tractrix horn for the mids?

    The Iwata plans are at

    http://users.pandora.be/philmundi/atel/atel.html

They are the same as was published in l´Audiophile in the 80´s. I subscribed and there where tons of horn-info at that time.

I noted that I will need to buy two compression (JBL probably)

My problem for the moment is to find a drowing with the good dimension to build it !
Thanks to reVintage for the link but it seems that some details are not present !

Do you think that a jbl 4716a is a good alternat solution to use with my expo (sub bass).

I would like to obtein a very good sound for "audiophile"

yes the 4716a has very good drivers: 2123H for the low mids (as used in the 4344mk2 studio monitor) and 2416H on modified 2342 horns for the highs (as used in the 4425 studio monitor).

The only real weakness will be the network: it will have to be entierly redone.
Also you should not plan to go below 200 or 300Hz with them, and then you should probably block the two ports build inside the modified 2342 (making them real 2342, like in the 4425).

    Realy !

I would like a very good sound "for my home", classic musique and so on....

It's for this reason that I want to "upgrade" my system.

If I use this head for home use, do you think that will be the same quality as an IWATA ?

I don't know the iwata. It is made for 2" drivers. These do not go really high: you will need a tweeter above them (maybe a TAD driver could go higher, but that also depend on the horn).

The 2342 is a good horn when used above 1.2khz, and the 2416H is a very good compression driver when used in a home setting. You should achieve very good results with them.

Do you have a good opportunity to buy a 4716a pair? If so, do not hesitate.

Using your DCX2496 you can assemble a good active 3-way system :
JBL subs (what kind of subs are you using exaclty?) up to ~350hz, 2123H up to ~1.6khz (with some attenuation above 800hz to compensate for the rising response), 2416H from there (with a 6db/oct boost starting around 3khz, and maybe another small boost starting around 10khz, to compensate for the constant directivity characteristic of the horn, as explained here)

of course you should remove the original passive network, and only use a protection cap for the 2416H (~40 µF).
You will need 3 amps of course.

    good luck with your project!
