    Altec Santiagos

I have an opportunity to buy a pair of Santiagos...878's .
My question is, what should I offer, and what is the best way to amplify these speakers? Thanks for any advise you can offer.

The Santiagos were the first speakers I ever owned back in 1975. They're somewhat unknown to most Altec fans and therefore don't command big dollars. If they are in near mint condition, I would offer $800. Any more than that and you are getting into the price range of the Model 19, which I think is a significantly better system. On the plus side, the Santiago has the deepest bass response of virtiallly any Altec. However, the highs are rolled off and the horn needs to be damped to address a peaked midrange response.

Thanks for the comment. What kind of amplification set up should I be using?
