    2231H, 2225H and 2235H

What are the differences between these woofers?

    I'd roughly guess: same frame/magnet
    aquaplas coating 31H
    no coating 25H
mass ring & progressive spider 35H

All three use different yet similar cone kits. The 2225 has a fabric surround and the other two are foam.

Yes, all three baskets and magnets are identical.

The 2225 is a higher efficiency model with reduced VLF performance and the 2235 is an evolution of the 2231H. The 2231H was an attempt to build a ferrite 2231A. It didn't take long before the transducer engineers at JBL got a better handle on ferrite drivers and made improvements.

Is there an echo in here? Grumpy already said that.

    clue 1 said the snake

    but *none* have the coating...I have examples of 2231A, 2231H, 2225H and 2235H right here...same for the LE15A / 2215A/B and 2203A

Didn't he say just the '25??

The paper pulp *is* thicker on the 31/35 than the 25 though. Same for the 121A.

Now the 128H *does* have aquaplas and so do the LE10H and 2245H...and others..

hold the phone... I was just guessing, based on the chart Hoerninger posted
& vague recollection regarding 2231 vs 2235. Happy to stand corrected
My thought was that the mass ring was only in the 2235 of these three and
something had to add mass to that 2231 cone... is there a mass ring in the
2231H as well, just a thicker cone, or (gasp) a goof in the chart? I only have
examples of the 2235 and 2225, so I humbly and gratefully defer to sub

...so yep, nothing about Aquaplas here: http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/2231h.pdf

I haven't had one in the line up in a few years. I thought they had a dusting on the back like the 1500AL. I'll take your word for it that they don't.

    ring ring

Interestingly enough, I have had 2245's with and without the aquaplas come thru the shop.

Since so many kits can fit into so many baskets, any of the foam surround types are carefully unglued and stored for those times when an acoustical match is desired. This way sometimes a pair of correct kits / frames can be reconstructed at a later time. I just completed a pair of 136A's this way for my daughters L200/300 cabinets.

    Anyways,
The 31 and 35 do have the rings. The 2231A and 2231H kits are IDENTICAL ( see pix ) the 2235's coil is a tiny bit longer and I suspect a different spider but it is very hard to measure stiffness.

And I even have a pulled LE15A cone that someone put into a 2231H basket and added the mass ring...

Nice try....Be sure to ask your reconer to do it right...!

Cool... that's the info I didn't have. Thanks, SIR!
(Hoping T-Don got his question sufficiently answered)
