    JBL L26 Decades... studio? ...newb

I am a TOTAL newb trying to assemble a studio for recording, mixing, and a cheap approximation of mastering. I have a pair of L26s in my garage with shitty cones, and I was wondering if instead of dropping a bunch of cash on monitors I should just have these reconed? I plan on getting a pair of mixcubes in the future for reference, but I need a pair of mains - will these work???

No reason they wouldn't make decent near/mid-field monitors. I wouldn't spend the money to re-cone them unless it was needed. Re-surrounding them is more cost-effective if that'll repair them, considering I just bought a nice pair off Ebay for $29.

They will work fine. Of the decade 16, 26, and 36 series IMHO the 26's always had the best and most accurate sound of the series.

hey i did use my L26 for homerecording too!
its alright to do that, they are quite revealing and have (outstandingly) good imaging (and that includes they look very good! handsome speakers, both with or without the grill).
on the other hand, they are not very linear.
be sure to get decent studio headphones too, to really check out the sound.
    (i use AKG 24o and AKG 271, both a bargain i think).

    cheers,
    mikey
