Hi
Does anyone have plans for a wooden horn for a 2440, planing to go from 500 to 7000Hz.
I'm building a new tri amped system with double 2225 bass, 2440 mids and 2405 high
Thanks
Nic

Hi,
- Read this thread from last year for some ideas .
- Also, do a site search for " radial horn " to see what turns up .
- Radial horns are pretty straight forward . The horizontal axis is planar ( deemed to be a conical expansion ) with the vertical expansion being exponential .
- I prefer Altecs' aspect ratio of the mouth ( Height vs Width ) for their radial designs ( called sectorals ) over what was used by JBL or even RCA .
- Buying a pair of JBL 2328 cast metal throats can simplify the "entry to horn bell" conundrum ( design ) .

- Thanks for posting those drawings !

nic,
- Check out reVintages' thread on modifying ( massacring ) an Altec 511 horn to accept a 2441 driver .
- This ought to be a pretty decent sounding horn ( once the metal bell is damped somewhat ) .
- This could all be done in wood .
- Here are some pics from that thread .

- Check out John Ws' thread on making H9800 clones.
- Though the H9800 has a 1.5" entry, this thread can provide a lot of ideas & inspiration to the novice horn builder .
-Also, follow Johnnys' thread ( yggdrasil ) for his insights about making a tractrix flared radial .
ps ; do a search for threads authored by either John W ( or yggdrasil ) for more info .
Thanks for all the replies. I'll look at the linked threads closely.
I also stumbled on the Iwata horn, which from what I have read is the "perfect" horn when it comes to wave propagation and loading of drivers like the 2441 and 2440.
It's not a straight forward build though due to the different expansions coefficients in the 2 dimensions ..
I have pair of Altec 511 with matching 802 drivers so don't really want to massacre them just now !
Thanks
Nic
It has been up here before: http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/s...ghlight=yuichi
The drawing is nowhere as good, and the reading is .... hard.
