    Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere

A concert filmed in Chicago 2005. Due to the video track it is not a DVD-A as with "Stupid Dreams" but in DTS (and PCM).
A good mix with only little audiences noise. Strong bass fundament, dominating drum set, melancholic, powerful, psychodelic.

On disc 2 there is a live recording from the German TV show Rockpalast by the WDR with "Futile" and "Radioactive Toy" (PCM).

    - And the "Cymbol Song" is very nice indeed. Choose DTS, use a sub.

    A wonderful concert.
It wisely ends not with "If this is Goodbye" but with "Why Worry".

    2 Disc set DVD+CD
    5.1 DTS Surround sound
    5.1 and 2.0 Dolby

Thanks for the recommend - I'm just reconfiguring my system - but from the bits I've seen of it so far, its a gorgeous looking concert with some great playing!

    Thanks so much!

    Shangri-La

Although there is a sticker "Plays on SACD and CD PLAYERS" you can't find the information that it is a multichannel disc - which it is in fact.
Mark Knopfler's music expands crystal clear in the room.

Two titles (Our shangri-la and All what matters) show obviously what is musically missing.

I don't have a copy with a sticker, but - it sounds glorious through the Emotiva in Direct mode ... Another good music tip you've given us!

I just got an NTSC/Region 0 DVD of Bryan Ferry's Bete Noir tour (from Berlin, '88-89) - and its got a 5.1 mix ... Its not Roxy, so no Manzanera, Mackay or Paul Thompson, of course, but otherwise its VERY nice! If you like his music, its a must have!

Average White Band - Live at Montreux 1977

The Average white Band is a Scottish funk and R&B band.
"Pick up the peaces" reached #1 in the US chart.

During this concert in montreaux the musicians are performing with a minimum stage show. Screen changes are slow, the musicians are well watchable and listenable.

It is a DVD with 5.1tracks for DOLBY and DTS.
And then there is a track wit PCM (48kHz, 16bit):
My receiver with optical connection indicates Dolby PLII with Left and Right only. But all five + one channels are working! D VD-A?
The player shows in its set-up menue Audio-DVD, Video-DVD is blanked. With the remote control I can switch between Dolby, DTS and PCM.

Sorry, the PCM track is STEREO! Unfortunately I had switched the Receiver to Dolby PLII.

I've heard some really good stuff lately, thanks to this thread -
The Emotiva is gone but even the Yamaha receiver (RX-V2095) does amazing things
when I flip it into "External Decoder" mode and take the 6 channel direct signal right off the Oppo (DV-981HD - not a blue ray player)...

Regular discs (like the Tom Dowd 2 disc remaster - The Allman Brothers Band - The Fillmore Concerts)
or SACDs like Avalon or Brothers in Arms all sound full and rich in direct mode ...

    But I don't think I'm up for Sony's SHM SACDs at $80 a release - that's just absurd!

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - and more

It is Elton John's best sold studio album (1973). There are various releases: stereo, the making of ...

am very satisfied with the hybrid SACD multichannel version consisting of two discs.
    (Amazon ASIN: B0000E64TR )

There is as well a difficulty to find but reasonable prized DVD Audio release.
(For "DVD Audio" look at the picture bottom left.)
    (ASIN: B0001Z53MY )
It is open for guesses which bitrates are offered.
This DVD is "momentary" not available in Germany.

In the depth of this forum there has been mentioned once
"Elton John: Elton 60 - Live at Madison Square Garden (2007)".
    t is worth to remember.
    I use the DTS version.

I am in total agreement with The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" and Brian Ferry's "Boys and Girls".

    And respectfully submit the following

Earth Wind & Fire's outstanding live recording "Gratitude"
    Kevin Gilbert's "Toy Matinee"
and the Quad Reel of the Spinners debut album.

I saw them live at Radio City

Great concert. I also think the CD and the live sound great. There are some low bass notes that rattle my room - or maybe it's a room node..
