    2405 phase plug

    Hi all,
On purely aesthetic grounds I quite like the look of the crystal phase plug I've seen in some 2405's.
Can anyone tell me if this item available as a spare?
    Thanks
    Cooky

...that would be the consumer-line version, "077", which has not been mfg'd for
quite some time... (I'd think "no", would be an appropriate answer). I'd also think
they wouldn't be hard to make from acrylic/plexiglas rod. :dont-know

    Thanks Grumpy,
I was toying with making a mold of a spare black one I have and casting in polyurethane resin if I couldn't source genuine ones but plexglass rod sounds even better idea.
I also realise that great care must be taken if tinkering around in this way so as not to damage the ring dia-maybe best left alone....

    077 2405 plugs

Do you actually think you can machine the compound angles, shoulders and multiple outside contours out of an acrylic rod??? The originals were cast and had a machined aluminum center piece added ( that often broke off when tightened ).

Here is a picture of the underside of the aluminum 2405 and acrylic 077 phase plugs ( not available anymore )

The tolerances on these are very critical and if you manage to make the acrylic ones cheap, you will own a small country from the sales...

And that, judging by the pic is a whole book of '2 cents worth
So casting and a bit of Lathe action then?

    seems like a patternmaker's problem, ... perhaps "wouldn't be hard" wasn't the
best choice of words, but very doable. Kind of like making L91 type lenses is "easy"
technically, once you have the pattern, angle, spacing, materials, tools, experience,
and time. I doubt anyone would make $$$ doing this... more a labor of love.
