    2235 or 2241 for a 3 way speaker

I need help please . I have a pair of 175dlh and a pair of 075 hf drivers what woofer would have the best performance 2241 or 2235 or should I add a 2123 and 2245 and build a 4345.

Of the two you mention the 2235 would be the better choice, but really speaking that woofer will not go up to meet the 175dlh well enough, in my opinion. With that woofer you should use a larger horn that can be crossed over lower, no higher than 800 Hz, and I personally would want to get more down toward 700 or 650. The 2235 is an excellent woofer, but its design favors using it for LF and VLF. It should not be confused with a classic JBL woofer like the 130A, which is made to work well up into the midrange. If you are set on using the 175dlh, then you should seek out a 130a or b or 2220H/J, but recognize that you will not be getting the low bass with those drivers.

The 2241 is a sound reinforcement woofer. I personally do not think it is a very good choice for home hi fi.

Do you have all these woofers, or are you deciding what to bid for on ebay?

The LE15H is the 8-ohm ferrite version of the beloved (by some) LE15 Alnico woofer. I have never heard it, but I think it would have a slightly different sound from the Alnico version, although similar parameters. I don't think the LE15 type of woofer will play as high as the 2235 and definitely will not play as low.

Well, yah. But, once you start considering what the crossover will be, you should decide to copy and build the 4345 with the updated, charge coupled version of the crossover, the 2122 instead of the 2123, the 2421/2107/2308 instead of the 175dlh and bi-amp.

It's all about the fact that recent high quality crossover filters are not generic as they were sometimes in the old days, and to get the kind of performance you would rightly demand from a selection of modern components you will want an engineered crossover. An engineered crossover works with one specific combination of components.

thank u for your input. the reason I wanted to use 075 and the 175dlh I think they sound better sonic wise than 2402 and 2420/2425/2426/. yes I know the 075 and the 2402 use the same diaphragm and have the same inpedance the only thing that set them apart is one has a alnico mag and the other one has a ferrite mag. I am going to build a 4 way 2245h /2123 becuse I can get my hands on them and175dlh- 075. now I will work on the cross over points than the cabs

That's cool. The already-made speakers are not the only ones that will work. I wish you luck with it.

The 2235 can make it out to 1.2k (4430's) the response becomes a bit uneven(+-3db). I don't think I would crossover the 2 inch driver below 1.2k (To much horn coloration for my taste aka L300).

The le15 was designed in the 60's, the 136 in the 70's and the 2235 in the 80's. I compared all three (the le15 was the least perfered), the 2235 won everytime.

The 2220 will have a peak in the midrange, because it was design for a different application.

My choice would be the 2235, good overall performance, moderate enclosure size and low distortion (see 4430's spec). btw the 2123 is very nice sounding driver and can be intergated with the 2235. I believe this combo has been implemented by a menber on this site.
