The image is blurred on the THX laserdisc but this was the cats’ bollocks in its day over VHS.

The first edition DVD upscale looked a trifle better over the THX laserdisc thou the edge enhancement was an eyesore to look at.

I couldn’t see least I’m sure on the bluray no (edge enhancement) EE.

Next up is spectrumlab I’ll keep it simple to one channel the LFE.1 to see which one is despite this lossless nonsense to see which one is the cats’ bollocks! I should really do each channel at time but, with 4 of the same no make that 5! I forgot about the THX signature laserdisc! That’s 10 sound formats. Sigh, this is going to take hours literally!

I’m going to need some cream soda cans for this.

The Specialist (1994) has been the number #1 DVD for the past few weeks for late night viewing.

The John Barry score heats up Stallone, Stone and Woods in Bond like style, I like every note that plays along with the action.

Lows are plenty on this film the mixing style is so cool plenty to listen out for plenty of experimentation to tweak on this film.

The film often gets 4 showings a night which is a bit more for single screen out of multiplex per day, which is average at 3 showings per day.

The riverside dock explosion chapter 27, wow that’s a lot of crabs flying in the air!

I liked the Hans Zimmer score different from some of the other scores.

The loudness that wasn’t super-loud in the face soft sounds to loud nicely balanced. The score beats it out on the end credits up till I say “wow” The Da Vinci Code score was too damn loud as score but the Inception score is far calmer it didn’t have me reaching to turn it down expect up a bit louder on the end credits.

I think it’s the midrange choir/voices on The Da Vinci Code that was too bright and some of the instrumental.

John Barry score gives the film heart-warming feeling that holds up just as well today as it did in 1990.

The lows were overloading the SPL db mic a bit. Dances with Sub Bass! Low give the score sweeping feeling that presses on the body. The solo trumpet gives me lump in the throat feeling, wow, what a powerful score.

Between the dts THX laserdisc and bluray dtsHD master audio, soundtrack was a +3 to 5db level on THX laserdisc it’s a level boasting same mix just different level.

Back to watching The Specialist (1994) on DVD for the late nights made a few changes on crossover for LCR changed the sub bass LFE.1 EQ with three all wired up. The high tweeting sounds are birds on the stereo surrounds from left to right nice jungle sounds.

I think the SPL is picking up the sound a bit clearer this morning last week seemed like everything was overloading on it? Gremlins, is what is.

The explosion was moving forwards and backwards side to side of the stereo surrounds as the hotel room detached itself from the building. How the hell did Sly, manage to rig that room in short time as the underside of the block was blow totally away.

The recoding picks out James Woods voice “holy sh!t”.

The alarm ringing sound is on left/right front and stereo surrounds
A real fire alarm bell would be around 107db as I measured the fire alarm bell in the building that was activated early this month when the guy was filling the walls with WhiteWool for cavity wall installation.

I don’t think I want to listen to an alarm bell on film at 107db its deafening!

The seagulls, flying all over the stereo surrounds sounds with occasional flybys over the left/right front is effective amongst the centre dialogue that might normally mask what you’re listening for.

Also there is a mild windy blowing atmosphere blowing over LCR as the scene is a breezy.

With LCR muted Sooty is looking up at the surrounds the seagulls. He’s probably thinking, WTF? Food! LOL

The airy breeze is bit softer on the surrounds. Could do with some warming up, I’d have to run a few tests first.

The bomb squad centre has sounds of people chatting left to right front as Ned enters the building.

The helicopter pans smoothly across the fronts from left to centre before landing.

I like the harmony of the John Barry score in chapter 21, choir voices and instrumental slowly moves around the surrounds.

    Listening to DIE HARD

Switched the Lucasfilm THX to ON has some of the highs on the monaural surrounds was bit bright. I didn’t want to trim the highs on the surrounds EQ as that is EQ to flat so switching the THX to ON relaxed the some of bullet whizzing though air.

Machinegun fire pans automatically from right as the terrorist fire to their left while single semi-matic shots fire in return. Chasing McClaine down to the elevator shaft with doors opening and closing from left to right creates incredible believability for this vintage (1988) 6track Dolby Stereo classic.

Some of the hard bullet impacts against the fan showed over my ears!

The office shootout blazes into total machinegun fire which shatters glass into sharp splinters all over the floor oh, ouch! And McClane doesn’t have any footwear.

I think I saw DIE HARD 3 times at the cinema during early 1989 a it was the best Dolby mix currently playing in town.

Something got me thinking about an hour ago about the RGB on the bluray players and the CRT Panasonic that only has SCRAT inputs video and S-video.

The SCART now not sure if it would work or not at upscale image to at 720p, no I don’t think the progressive scan will be accepted on the CRT maybe 480/576i and I’m not sure of 1080i?

Adaptor plugs are cheap so I’ll get one next week and see if this works or not?
