Oh bloody hell its Indian beef curry meets the matrix meets the terminator meets transformers. I like it. But lose the voice-over.
I noticed, “the Wilhelm Scream” that scream has been used so many times when Ben Burtt resurrected it with Star Wars episode 4 (1977) its been used a lot since then.

I didn’t see Endhiran listed on latest Wilhelm

Hi,
The laserdisc player does not work better on a full HD screen
The BD player works best on a full HD screen

Now, isn't that odd! But maybe the Samsung is a cheaper model with poor contrast ratio ... contrast matters!
I find watching a DVD through the Oppo BDP-93 on our Philips CRT HDTV looks great! Even before we had Bluray, the older Oppo DV981 looked great on that set, even tho it only goes to 180i ...
On Friday I bought a 47 inch Vizio flat screen for a stunningly good price - so once it arrives I'll have to get back to you in a couple weeks how DVDs and Bluray look on that ...

Yep, but seeing as how few of us can afford 70 MM prints and the hardware to accurately run that media in our homes, anything else is just making compromises.
So - pick a reasonable point for your compromise and just enjoy the movie ...
My choice is to have a single system to view it all on ... not multiple media players or multiple "screens" ... its my home and sometimes it nice to do something other than dink with a pile of gear.
So, if the new VIZIO TV looks better with DVs, BR and TV shows than the old Philips CRT, the CRT goes away. if it does not. the new one goes back for a refund, and I wait for a better model to be released.
Honestly, Plasma screens do look better than cheap flat screen LCD TVs ...
and quality LCD Tvs are somewhere in the middle ....
I'm just not looking for a $5000 TV set ...

No, I wouldn't be surprised - but - I worked for the KB movie theatre chain here in the DC area when I was in HS ...
not as projectionist, that was a union job here, back in those days, but I got a close look at all that stuff ...
I surely don't need/want all that in my house, thank you very much.
And our viewing habits are much different - I don't want a TV projector system either -
The good ones aren't in my budget, and I wouldn't have a cheap one ...
Besides - I like the view out our windows and I don't have to dim the room for casual watching.
And, no, I am not going to be finding clean 70mm prints of Lawrence of Arabia, The Wind and the Lion,
Beckett, or similar film classics for reasonable money - yet I own clean prints of those and so more on disc already ...
God bless technology's march forward!
DVDs work just great for me, thanks!
But forgive me, I've gotten carried away and pulled your thread off topic!
- do you want me to delete these posts of mine here?

Watching some highlights from Backdraft (1991) on bluray with bed sheet 1080i, you can’t beat a good ole bed sheet!
SPL db meter set at 90dbc rather than 80bc due to some recent level adjustments on the LCRS
The lows roll roar and rumble around on this classic film
Need to get a perforated screen the bed sheet creases and screen brightness are diminished
Listening and re-listening to the shootouts from The Getaway (1994) on side2 CLV laserdisc
When Kim smacks Jennifer Tilly, well it’s the Foley effects that gave it the hard punch within the 30Hz to 40Hz. First she grabs her by the scruff of the hair and slams her into the side of door WHAM then punches in the face. The slam into the door was higher than the rest of the shootouts and the lift falling down the shaft at the end.
Is that gunfire?
No someone’s TV.
That’s a funny line in the early days of Dolby SR-D, dts SDDS8 which is getting louder and louder with these action films.
Another shootout moment from The Getaway with car chase.
Checking the pink noise using the internal AVR own narrow band pink noise.
Listening to a cool dialogue scene from The Specialist the score was by John Barry.
SPL db meter set at 80dbc
Listening to another cool scene from The Specialist John Barry score slowly builds up to an explosive moment which rumbled thumped kicked and roared deeply.
