    L 300 summit.

For some years i have been searching for a pair L 300 speakers, but here in Sweden the prices have been to high for me. Yesterday i got mail from "topr" about L 300, there is a pair for sale 60 km from me for 1500 dollar.

So home from job, change car, fixing money and of to the seller. And now they are standing in my living room . They are a 9 at a 10 scale

Does someone know how many L 300 there are buillt ?

A lot... Sorry, I don't have an answer, but they were quite popular back then and JBL built a heck of a lot of them.

Very nice! Just for curiosity, how much is $1500 sweeden dollars when compared to american dollars.

That sounds like a very good price and they look to be in very nice condition. Congratulations and now you have to tell us if they sound like you hoped they would.

Gary L: 1500 dollar is 1500 usd. In Sweden we have "kronor". I think they sounds VERY good, at the moment i feed them with a Jbl 6230 urei. But in the future i hope i can have an old Mcintosh amp or a DIY Class A amp.

Grats on your purchase Mats. How do they compare to your K2/array DIY?

    L300 buy or build

    Hi, really nice!

Looking for something similar in / around Holland. Perhaps people are even willing to ship them overseas. The other option is to put them together from parts bought on e-bay. It's unlikely that I will be able to match the looks, but the sound should be doable.

The following may be a bit off-topic, sorry for that. First post on this forum. Feel free to direct me in the right direction.

Like so many I remember the L300 from way back when they were described in a DIY speaker book by H.H. Klinger (German). Should finally have the money to build or buy them.

I noticed that some drivers may be replaced by newer units (e.g. 136A by 2231H, LE-85 by 2420, 077 by 2405H), any other replacements possible? This should make it easier to obtain the suitable parts.

Found the hand written sketch of the X-over (need to check if I can read it all), but it doesn't tell you the required driver impedances. In the Klinger book the woofer is 8 Ohm, but mid and high are 16 Ohm. I noticed that for instance the 077 is often sold as 8 Ohm, which would then not be suitable I guess??

Any advice, input, literature or URL's helping me to get this off the ground is highly appreciated. Promise to post photo's in return when ready.

    Cheers, Jan (Amsterdam)

Jan, You are in the right place but I am not the one to help you with the JBL 300s.

If you use the search function here and type in JBL 300 or L 300 Summit you should have a few nights of reading about all the info you are looking for.

As with many of these great vintage speakers, many changes took place durring the life of their production.

Even after they stoped making them many members here have embarked on a mission to make them even better. I'm not sure of the success of these projects but I think if you read some of the info from those who are reliable JBL experts then you should find the answers that will direct you to the correct parts.

I think you will never find out exactly because those records were lost during the Northridge Earthquake. JBL's corporate HQ is in Northridge Calif, in the San Fernando Valley. The Los Angeles area suffered some serious damage, and JBL was litterally at the epicenter.
