    2242 recone adhesives

Hi guys, I'm just about to do a 2242 recone. I have a good basket which just has a ripped cone (coil is good) and a genuine recone kit. There are no instructions in with the kit just the parts. The only adhesive which comes with it is labeled "3m scotchgrip 1300-L rubber gasket adhesive".
The "rubber gasket" label confuses me slightly as all the joins are pleated cloth to frame. Looking at another 2242 it appears that a different adhesive, from the one that holds the spider and surround, is used to secure the dust cap.
    - Can anybody tell me what the correct adhesives are?
    - Is the 1300-L intended for the frame to spider and frame to surround junctions or the dust cap?
    - Any tips for a 2242 recone? I've not done a 2242 before is it fairly standard?

    Cheers,

    Olly

    Hi, Olly...

The label on the adhesive tube is just the 3M name for it, that's all.

On the few recone's I've done, I've used the adhesive that came in the kit for all pieces. Never had a problem. However, I am not an authorized reconer, so maybe some who are will chime in here.

Curious - is this an OEM kit?

Cheers Bo, yes this is an OEM kit - stamped JBL all over. Kit number is C8R2242. Got it off ebay for £15.36. The basket was £53. People don't really seem to know what they are over here; I just saw a working pair in good nick go for £147. They are very rare though, probably because Harman charge so much in the UK. A new 2242 is £800 here.

That isn't an original JBL glue!

    The right glue shows
    JBL P/N 353196-001
    353196-001 ADHESIVE TUBE, MOYEN 308

    Yes....Guido...

The 1300-L is, in fact, a correct glue.

It predates the CP Moyen glue.

His kit must be a few years old. The 2242 has been around close to 10 years now.
