If you didn't own JBL what brand would you use for you main system?

Altec silly...

wish i could afford Cogent True to Life....
Westlake followed by Urei followed by Altec.
JBLs in my main system?
For my living room, "main system", I am seriously considering a pair of Revel F32s or perhaps the Pioneer S-2EX. They are both small enough to get passed the wife and yet offer almost full sized performance.
If price were no object and WAF wasn't an issue, I would go for a pair of Andrew Jones' masterpieces, the TAD Reference 1. I would want to compare them at length with the Everest II though before making that commitment, but then you did imply a brand other than JBL.

Hammer Super 12's. I have heard single driver and I have seen the light. And I can afford them!
If price were no object, I too would love to give Cogents a try.

I assume price is indeed an object, but that SOME money will be spent, and that not owning JBL's stems from gentility and not lack of discernment, and that the listening room is of reasonable size, so I would have to consider one of the smaller (10" or 12") paper-coned Tannoy dual concentrics supported below with a subwoofer. If you could get ahold of a pair of the Manley/Mastering Lab ML 10's and get them well-matched with a subwoofer, you could stop thinking about speakers and start listening to music again.

I'd have to agree with Mr. Widget on the TAD's and little brother Pioneers.
Another serious contender with all American technology would have to be Thiel and custom built system with Radian coax's.

I'd go with KEF. I wish i could remember the model numbers of them, my dad had an all KEF system which sounded incredible.
Andrew Jones of TAD is formerly of KEF.
Here is a short interview with Mr. Jones:

I would have to say Tannoy Dimension TD-12's or if money was totally no issue then anything out of the Tannoy Prestige models. There is something about the Tannoy sound I cant get over.
I havent heard them yet, but the new Klipsch Paladium would be a strong contender. So would many of the TAD monitors.
Quad ESL-2905 is also an awesome speaker, and not THAT pricy.
Of course Tannoy prestige models is also high on the list. I think the Canterburry 15 would suit my needs.
