    Building a speaker with JBL 2235H, E145-8 and 2446H and Jabo KH50-horns

    Hi from Germany,

after having employed the 2235H and the E145 each as single speakers with my horns, I would like to try out something new and combine the fine low-end of the 2235 with the faster reaction of the E145 from 300hz upwards. Crossing the horn lower as 700hz was no option to my ears.

Both bass-drivers should be put in one cabinet of about 7cubic feet (200liters), using 5 for the 2235 and the rest for E145. 2235 in ported enclosure and E145 sealed.
Crossover points should be around 100hz in the low area and between 700 and 1200hz to the horn. Any filter is possible with my DSP, which drives the system.

Amps are: Dynacord A 2002 and TDA7293 for the 2235, E145 and EL84 (as triode) and 6c33c for the horn.

Are there any drawbacks to this idea?
Does the E145 work in sealed cabinets of 2cubic feet?
Do you have any other ideas?

    Regards

    Peter

It should work. I use E-145's in 5 cubic ft and have subs under them crossing at about 50Hz or so. I cross the E-145's over at 300Hz to 10" 2123's.

    E145 and 2235

I recommend to use the E145 as a full bass drivers.

The JBL 2235 is extremly good up to 700hz as well. This drivers can be used alone to do what you want.

Using JBL design such as the new DD66000 and the 4435. The Low frequency is only used below 100Hz. I would do the same as JBL in your project. if you really want to use the 2 bass drivers.

    My choice with your drivers:

    1. 2235 only and compression drivers
    2. E145 full range 50Hz to 700hz and the 2235 below 100Hz.
    3. E1245 and compression drivers.

    E145 and 2446h

    Hi sa660,

what kind of crossover do you use with your E145?
Would you put two different drivers in one enclosure without separating their volumes, like in your second proposal?

The E145 has quite a nasty peak at 1,7khz, which the 2235 doesnīt have, but I prefer the fast bass of the E145 right now. Donīt realy miss the lows too much. Puttng the E145 in an open baffle and using it from 200 to about 1200hz with a steep crossover would be an idea too. Have you experimented with an open baffle yet? Its quite usefull with high qt vintage drivers in my experience.

    Regards Peter
