    Replacing LE15A/PR15 with 2226H/PR15

My 1973 LE15A's need to be completely refurbished. Can I replace them with 2226H's and still get by with my PR15 passive radiators?

    No.

Well of course you can, but the performance will suffer significantly. You can always pop the 2226s in there and see how you like it though.

Is there a problem with getting them done?

No probelm redoing them but since I replaced my LE85's with 2450's I thought I might as well update the woofers.

What horn? With 2226's and 2450's you're talking killer little PA system here...

I tried a Pr15 with a 2235 it seem to move quite a bit of air.

The PR should have twice the excurtion of the primary driver.

As far as sound quality, I perfered the 2235 with a PR over a ported system. The low end was more extended and would shake the room

I used a RS sound pressure meter to tune the passive.

    LE85's replaced by 2450J's

I would have replaced my LE85's with 375/2440's to go from S20R's to S22R's. Good ones are so expensive with that I would have to get HL89's. I don't like the sound of HL93's. I am using the 2450J's with 2380A's. A bit modern but great sounding to me.

    - Why are you convinced that the LE15a(s) need a complete refurbishing ( ie ; a reconing ) ?
    - Many times, these old woofers can get by with just having new foam surrounds installed .

    - You don't want any SR ( sound reinforcment ) type woofer because they will have an Fs ( free air resonance ) that is typically 1 whole octave higher than a comparable HiFi woofer . ( & then ; your bottom octave of music disappears ) .

    - If you need to buy new / consider putting your name on the list at Harman to get a pair of 1500Fe woofers ( @ $ 950.00 /pr ). This is one of JBLs' new "updated" HiFi 15" that is used in a few of their medium priced products ( such as the 4338 ).
    - If you can't wait for Harman to "release" a batch of these woofers for sale to the public / buy ME150H 15" woofers. From what I can gather they are pretty close kissing cousins . Price = $ 880.00 for a pair & they are available now .

    - If you do buy any of these recommendatons / I'd first start with the PRs in place ( nothing ventured / nothing gained, etc. ) . If you can't get the bass quality that you want with this combo / then fill in the PRs opening with a dummy plate ( that holds the necessary ports to turn your cabinet into a stock Bass Reflex ) .

    - I suspect you may want to add more weight to the PRs . IME, JBLs newer woofers are really a lot like a "Mack" truck waiting to be hitched up to a trailer ( ie; lots of drivetrain torque looking for a load to smooth out the drive ) .
