This Could be the End Guys!

The Santiago fire is dancing on the hillside in plain site less than a mile from here. The important papers are packed in the car. Our power keeps going on and off. The Corvettes and JBLs are going to have to fend for themselves. It's getting hairy guys!

Todd, best wishes to you guys. I was at my friend Rich's in Anaheim tonight, and the winds were crazy and the air full of ash on the way home.

Dodged a major bullit last nght. The fire burned the entire hill across from our house, about 1/2 mile due east. Luckily, about 74 acres burned there about 6 weeks ago and served as an effective fire break. We still see "hot spots" burning on the hill.

Winds are really bad... 90 mph+++ through the canyon (over 2,000 mph scale miles per hour for the garden railroad)! With the impending Santa Ana winds, I brought in most structures on Saturday, but some stay out, and were damaged. The tar paper roads actually lifted off the ground and were ripped to shreds, even weighted down with rocks. Even weighted down, the big trestle blew out from the piers. Worst we've seen in the 14+ years we've been here. At times, you can't stand up against them and have to hold on to something secure (wrought iron fence).

This fire was a result of arson and was started in three seperate areas.

    Todd

That sounds like good news, though I know it's never over until the winds are gone. Hopefully that happens by tomorrow.

I'm a long way from Malibu or Anaheim, but the smoke and ash are all over here in the Harbor, blowing in from the fires. The smell at your place must be awful, as I couldn't sleep last night.

I went through a fire in MI before I moved out here. It burned the barn and the outbuildings down to the ground, but the VFD saved the house. Whenever I smell heavy smoke, I can't sleep at all.

Good luck. The winds will shift (but not die out) later today.

As TD said, can never be sure until the winds are gone, and there is still major blaze just over the hill. But at this point the fuel between us and the blaze is pretty much consumed. Still, there is a voluntary evacuation of our area and the important stuff is in the car ready to go.

    Wow! That really sucks.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I hope the worst is over for you... many have been far less fortunate.

Good luck through the rest of the season.
