    altec 420y biflex

Hello to all the members of this forum, I acquired old cabins altec, the reference is 870B Speaker System, Serial 892, Number 391916, AL75. The woofer is 420Y. I have connected them to a Set 2A3 Utopia Audio www.utopiaudio.com
I have thought to connect to along with tweeter Electro Voice TW35 wolverine 420y using the CO of electro voice C36, or any capacitors. Some suggestion for this project. Thanks, Martin

You could try it .The EV tweeter horn seems a good choice .THE tw35 came with the CR35 XO at 3500. I would go for Altec Xo N3000 . The Fr range of the TW 35 is
    unknown to me though.

THE C 36 IS A FIRST ORDER XO AT AROUND 3500 HZ.

There should be no problem The Altec Santana XO at 3500 HZ.

I am listening 420A since several years with a 2A3 amp. Nice speaker and nice matching.
The treble of the 420 is very good, absolutely no "ringing", but it needs a super tweeter. I put the raven R2 ribbon, 12kHz 12dB/oct crossover but ONLY on the tweeter.

And I put these on solid maple flat open baffles. Parameters imply to much bigger enclosures for me.

Very soft, very colorful and very dynamics results.

I was using a pair of Biflex 420A and 420Y in open baffle as well. Beutyfull midrange and pretty deep bass for a OB. I would suggest to disconnect the tweeter on 420Y, since it itīs so high quality comparing to the low-midrange 420 Biflex. Get a pair of ESS AMT 1 tweeters (300-400$ on ebay) and you will end up in a 7th heaven. Raven R2 is pretty good too, i would also check the RAAL tweeters too, since they are most wanted in the european diy scene here. Anyway a beutiful combination for a low money
