What woofer came in the 1973 L-200?

I remember buying a set of L-100's thai i couldn't afford at a stereo store in 1973, and while the guy went in the back to get them, i started pushing buttons to here other speakers. When i hit the button for the L-200's, they went so loud that the guy came running back out to turn them down. I was so impressed! I've been hooked on jbl sinse that day.

I think it was the first version, so it should be a LE15B.
These are basically LE15A with a cloth surround. They are very sensitive (maybe 97db/1w/1m), but do not have much low end. The cab is tuned to 36Hz. Quite a boomy speaker.

I made the same comparison as yours with my 4412, and the L200A is MUCH more efficient indead (albeit far less pleasant to listen to IMHO).

Do you know if the LE15B woofer was white? I remember i was so impressed with the looks of the L200 that i built a similar looking set in 8 cu. ft. with LE15A's and pr's., but they just never had much punch.

LE15B is not white. That'd be early L300, probably.

I measured LE15B using various tunings in 5 cuft in another thread here.

It's irredeemable; even closed-box, it still booms.

In L200, it makes stunning fake bass. L100 on steroids.

    FUN, briefly.

There could've been an L200 an L45 that had a white cone 135A.

Seems I remember a 15" with white aquaplas and a Lansaloy surround.....but that was a long time ago.

With JBL....lots of undocumented things are possible.

Thanks for the memory jog, Heather.

In the above library link we see the 4350 with 2230A with white aquaplas cone and Lansalloy surround.

I've only seen LE14s in brochures with the white Lansplas/Aquaplas coating. Did JBL apply their coating to the LE15?

    2230 was brief, apparently, 1974:

I'll probably get hung but I'd describe the LE15B as a D140 cone with a LE15B or 145 motor I don't think that's in accurate although others probably think there are better ways to describe it. Or like a lot of other things I could be out in left field. 135A is white, showed up in L45 flair. No slouch for a rather small enclosure. The rest of the system (LE5, LE25,) don't do it justice.

The L45 Flair standard system is pretty much a L100 or 4311 with a 15" and bigger box.

The L45 could be loaded with the "good stuff" as an option.

135A is pretty much the equivalent of the 2230A....they both currently get reconed with C8R2235.

Your description of an LE15B is beyond left field and out in the parking lot.

Fake bass. Thats interesting. I'm using 123's with 375's and 075's, and at times i wonder if i'm listening to fake bass. I'm wondering if a woofer from

the 112's would work better in 3.3 cu. ft. Or, another woofer altogether? Years ago i used 124-A's, and then switched to 136-H's. I don't have the room for 15's anymore, and the 124's didn't have enough punch for me back then in the early 1800's. Ha!
