It was 98 degrees yesterday, but biked down to my fave buying emporium.

Ran into a record collecting/vendor friend who was so happy that he'd just found and bought 18 pounds of mint, classic Jazz records. Good omen.

He and I were the only ones grabbing vinyl as somehow the LP sharks were not in attendance that day. So I grab a nice gore-tex jacket and hear a
"Tom, over here NOW" . Another bin of vinyl rolling out.

He scoops them and I selectively nab some. All seems to be from one donor. Mostly original classic Jazz in mint condition . I do grab an Australian Donovan LP , an "Iron Butterfly LIVE" (the LIVE inna-godda-da-vida" is better than the studio one, and 2 minutes longer) , and a Steve Miller "Brave New World" , some BlueNote jazz's , jazz with OBI's . Only 6 pounds. Did get a 1962 mono Billie Holiday album in super shape.

My friend nabs 43 pounds . We combine at the register, so only $1/pound. Later on, lots of bike parts (pumps, pedals, gauges, bags) come my way.

As I'm getting ready to leave, a Russian friend comes over and plops a Western Digital USB external drive in my hands. From the model number appears to be 1 TB. Oh well, another $5.

Got home, plugged it in to test , comes up great. 600 GB free. Out of the 400 used, 300 is downloaded music from Itunes & Amazon (tunes that I actually listen to) and 100 GB of installer software (CS6, ACDsee 14, ISOs of W7,W8,W10, Office ..etc..etc) ...looks like 5 guys shared this networked drive. Guess it was worth my 5 ?

selling any 1 of the bike items will more than cover the entire cost of the day.

    Later: 128-H's gone

    weather was passable yesterday ,

Summer seems to have ended Sept,1

Biked down to my fave grabb-o-rama store
(inventory changes hourly, new tables come out & everybody
    goes full piranha mode)

anyway,, tables rolled out and there were a pair of JBL Venue STAGE
tower speakers in nice condition. I got 1 and a Russian friend got the other.
Looked it over ... made in Ch1na -yuk , 6.5 LF , yuk ..etc. couldn't get very excited
and gave mine over to him. He got a price from a wandering manager of $25.

    http://www.jbl.com.my/stage-bk-venue...peaker-24.html

it was prolly a decent deal, but checked online today and they were only $118 each..NEW.

    http://salestores.com/jblstage.html

later on a table stopped in front of me and I recognized the bottom of a Marantz receiver, in it's wood case. Grabbed that one quickly. BUT , it was only a 2216 , broken off balance slider , bent shafts , although in nice condition before GW damaged it. Reluctantly threw it back too.

At least I ended up with a nice Signet phono cart

Grabbed a nice little (21 pounds - each) pair of these B&W's
yesterday. Everything in good shape, should be easy
    renew.
Sound pretty good, except the 8 only goes to 70hz. Did
present very full with little JBL sub added.

or a tranny fluid line ... tho that will just make a red light
    leading to an auto-rotation

no audio today on the ride ,

    .
but DID haul (16 pounds and huge) this French wall clock . Web dates it from between 1915-1920 . Unusual that it has Westminster chime. Another Winter project.

I like the Art Deco hands.

Could have bought a Phillips 578 amp today .... feared that it would be near $40, and so declined.
Then they priced it at $10 , but I just wasn't jazzed up enough to warrant driving back tomorrow to p/u
Did snag some GradoSR60's. Sound VG for cheap cans.

Beautifull clock. Looks pretty much like the one that was at my grand-parents house in Normandy. They got it in the mid 1930s when they got married.
I will always remember the chiming... ;-)

    thanks Lee

about 30 years ago , when Brits started upgrading their home furnishings and Americans started importing their castoffs (great cabinetry & veneers ) , I found a beautiful Camelback mantel clock. Didn't run (it had a retirement plaque from the London Post Office 1921) and I kinda taught myself repair/reconditioning. Pulled the whole works apart (numbered each piece) cleaned and oiled (mineral oil) , reassembled and it ran great.

Since then I've picked up too many older clocks and have them in a livingroom rotation , much like speakers. In fact speakers & clocks share some attributes.
They both need periodic maintenance , cab tuneups and owners frequently part with them when they no longer perform as new.

My addiction is fueled by the cheap prices that I can obtain clocks and I seem to get some comfort from the noises they make. Each has it's own personality and at night I can ID the individual chimes and determine who is running fast/slow and compensate in the morning.

    weird, huh ?

    audio today

    .
boy , did I feel the weight on the ride home today ... if I told you how much I paid, it wouldn't be believed ... so I won't .
Grew up with one of these starting at 12 y.o. It NEVER ran with the cover and always had fans blowing across it , but sounded good

Not even going to plug it in ....

I THINK it may be the original model (seems more sought after ?)
