looks like that mic from last post may be going to NYC ...

we were at Macys yesterday (avoid the Lancome Island) and left quickly . Stopped at GW surplus on the way home.

I have a bud in there who could find great stuff in a drained swimming pool. he's got the knack.

So the book guys attack all the new book inventory. He saunters over and casually picks up a stamp collection album and leafs through it. Out falls 2 cancelled tickets.

1965 Beatles first US tour concert (Kansas City) http://www.beatlesbible.com/1964/09/...m-kansas-city/ , perfect shape. First ones they found online had sold for $300.

By weight at GW ..mebbe a nickle ?

and she says ==>> Yap. It''s from Chin. The character shows the name of empire.

(The Qing dynasty (Chinese: 清朝; pinyin: ), officially the Great Qing[4] (Chinese: 大清; pinyin: Dā Qīng), also called the Empire of the Great Qing, or the Manchu dynasty, was the last imperial dynasty of China, ruling from 1644 to 1912 with a brief, abortive restoration in 1917.)

    also called Chin.

Did a 2 wheeled Safari again today. Grabbed another JBL iPod dock.

Looked a little closer when I got it home and thot "this is bigger than I remember"
so went and got the little white one that has been in use. Today's black one is
considerably bigger. The white one has 2 drivers , where as the new black one has 4.

It does seem to make quite a difference. Lot more bass. A worthy upgrade

Grabbed a pair of SNELL 8 inch-2 ways today. Was on bike so I'll
have to return tomorrow and pickup.

I thought the label said "type 7" , but google can't find that. From pix, it
looks like type K must be it . http://www.snell.no/the_archives_type_K.htm

Seem to be OKAY condition, needing refoams, of course. Price was ridiculous.
    they are bi-ampable. Vifa drivers

have read a lot of good things about them and I'm a sucker for 2 ways, sooo ....

I usually check CL for both JBL & ESS

    .
    today I found this ad:

    Jbl and magnaplanar and gear
Pair of jbl moniters and pair of magnaplanars one pair of ess speakers one velodyne subwoofer one sansui turntable 2 dbx things and a carver these were my dads he passed away im selling as a lot only my dad paid 1000 for jbl a year ago priced to sell

there was a phone number ... I looked at it and thought "I know that number"
Oh yeah , that's LHF member maggnepan's number. Hope I'm wrong. No. It was Dan who died last week. F*ck.... he's been a friend for 30 years.

    http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...?890-maggnepan

Called and talked to his son. He mentioned that Dan said I was one of his real friends. So I got in the truck and drove way over to Hillsboro. The boys had things stacked up for me.
Said he was getting calls from Seattle,Eugene ,,San Fran ..etc.

Stuffed the truck with: ..... highlights

JBL 4671OK's (that I had sold to him)
    Velodyne F-1200
Sansui XP-99 TT with M91ed, Signet weight and spare head/cart*
ESS AMT 10b's (I have a pair & love them)
    Magnaplanar MG-I IMP pair
couple R2R decks + lots of tapes
    Heathkit AP-1615 preamp
    Carver sonic hologram generator c-9
    some DBX boxes ..1BX, 117
    Marantz CD-80 deck
    Sansui 9090db
    2 large/heavy ESS AMT drivers
    4 round ESS AMT drivers
a large marble slab for TT vibration reduction

*the TT seems well regarded. He talked about it often.
was just reading something about a counter rotating platter.

Th XP99 actively and passively suppresses vibration.
Actively suppressing vibration is our revolutionary Silent Synchrotor System, assisted by our friction-free linear coreless motor, straight tonearm and solid, anti-vibration cabinet.
The XP-99 comes complete with a moving coil cartridge (AT-3100S) for crisp, transient sound - unusual for an MC, it features a user-replaceable stylus.

Wish I had visited his home under better circumstances.

    Sad to hear.
Everyone here is a friend and everyone who departs will be missed by all of us—and of course by his "real" family. All the best to them.

According to his profile he was but 69-years-old: Date of Birth June 26, 1946 (69) RIP

    from his profile:
    jbl l212 bass subwoofer powered
yamaha ns monitors with berylium tweeter

I have owned his UB212 for 3 or 4 years.
traded for his yammys and sold last year.

    thanx for that post Phil.

Dan was a disabled Vietnam vet , shot in combat and lived in pain. He had an incredible audio knowledge database in his head. We were shocked to hear the news. RIP

At this point, with limited demos, I think the keepers in the gaggle will be:

The Sansui XP-99 (very nice actually)
ESS AMT 10b's (geeze, they sound great )
    Heath pre (not yet tested)
Carver SHG (also not yet tested)

all else will go on CL to try to recoup my outlay.

Called his son yesterday .... Dan had been holding some Zeppelin
half speed mastered LP's for me. Kids gave all records to GW

Also they are looking for the remote for the Velodyne sub.

got industrious today , (despite being home sick for 3 days now )

tested all 6 of the ESS AMT drivers. ALL WORK. Bless Dan, everything of his
that I've tested, so far, has been working.

so I've been down with a monster cold for 2 weeks

    .
finally felt good enough to get out for a bike ride ...it's sunny and near 60 degrees.

So there were actually a couple of garage sales. ... first 2 had standard crap
but on the third I noticed a thrashed SL-Q3 sitting dejected. had a $3 tag on it, was barely worth that.

But then I noticed that it still had a good headshell in it , pulled it off to check the cart.
Stylus looked good .. . Quickly gave them my bux and headed home. Pulled the V15T3's shell from daily driver Pioneer TT and subbed this in ...my oh my. . Perfect. maybe even some salvage parts on the Q3. (cart needs a little cleanup, but..you know, price was right )

guess it was the right time to get well ?

Suspension looks good from what little I can see

I have a Type IV, love it

Some people find a reason to complain about the IV, not me

Found a nice (haven't it cleaned yet) ADCOM pre/tuner today. I use one with my GFA-555 and it's a pretty nice combo. Appears never opened. Passes basic tests. Paid a lot less for this one

12 pounds in the bikes bag.
