Picked up a Kyocera DA 310cx CD player a couple of days ago. Advertised for free on Freecycle as "not working". Figured WTF.

The owner left it in a bag on their porch for me to pickup. Got it home and nothing but static through the headphones but the display indicated it was playing. Hit the drawer button and got nothing. Gave it a poke with my finger and the drawer opened and ejected a beat-up CD-R. Threw it in the trash, loaded up Emily Remler's Transitions and beautiful music started playing. Hooked it up in the test-system in my middle daughter's room (out of college and working in the theater in NYC so I doubt she'll mind) and it's been working perfectly for three days. No skips, no drawer malfunctions, just playing fine. I have no idea what DACs Kyocera used but it sounds fine.

Matches my big Kyocera system I got off CL a couple of years back for $60 with the 610 CD, big receiver, cassette deck, remote control module, and two remotes except those have piano-black acrylic end caps and this one the conventional wood veneer over MDF.

    Free is good!

I can't seem to pass up those 192khz/24bit audio DAC'ed DVD players. Got another today.

My GW outlet charges by weight.... $1.59/lb. , but if over 3 lbs. then it drops to
$0.89/lb. Those players are about 4 pounds so they round down to $3.

They really do redbook CD very well , and DVD-A too.

    Kyocera DA 310cx
When those came out, thought they looked clean and sounded nice when
played through some gear well above it's pay grade (which was not mine...
heard it in a low-BS Pasadena CA 'high end' store) They thought well
enough of it to include it in their rep'd lineup for a time.

Lucky it's still working... even very expensive units that old tend to get
    "tired" ... tray/laser mechanisms.

Congrats on the recent finds I was always a fan of Kyocera's gear in the old days.... built so well and so handsome. Yet, somehow, I never ended up owning of it.

I have a a Kyocera DA 310cx as well. Bought it for it's looks, but seems dark and non-detailed , so it doesn't get much use. probably a birds nest on top of the lens

I haven't played this in a good system yet but it sounds quite nice through the Sennheisers and just fine in the small system which includes a Soundcraftsmen PR2, Crown D45, and little JBL 2500s (free from a neighbor). The 610 sounds very bright but then it's playing through the $60 complete Kyocera system into L20Ts sitting way up on a shelf.

    10 minutes late.

    .
walked into my fave thrift yesterday and a guy was sliding some black towers to the register.
the socks went all the way around and had glossy tops.
I stopped and asked him if they were "Definitive Technology's" ?

Yup ... BP10's. I remember Julian Hersh (sp?) going on and on that the BP-12 was one of the finest speakers that he'd ever tested.
These looked to be in fantastic condition. How much ?? $25 the pair.

I certainly would have leaped at those. Oh well, can't get them all.

They'd probably have been hard to live with anyway, since they're going into the relationship acknowledging that they're bi-polar.

While biking to the farmers market with my wife and daughter yesterday I saw this Leslie Series 125 on the curb. They went to the market and I went home, woke up my son and together we loaded it into the trunk of my Crown Vic. The speaker works and the scoop spins. I've not powered up the amp yet. I love to cob webs.

Of course I have zero need for this but I am enjoying messing with it.

This model was a smaller and less expensive design but still carries a premium as far as desirability. It is tubed so some of the old tubes may not be working. This model has a full range speaker and a single rotor. The higher priced used a larger woofer and horn that rotated at the top.

This 12" driver is designed for musical instruments and won't be good in a sub. The rig is in pretty good shape and so I will probably keep it together.

I almost didn't recognize it as a Leslie as I was used to seeing the slots on the top for the spinning horn.
