I'm NOT promoting the content , just another interesting find.

Background: There are a number of illustrated books published during the Nazi era. They were large books in which one pasted photographs received as premiums*. This one, published in 1936, was devoted to the deification of Adolf Hitler.

Hey buddy. Don't worry. I didn't imply you were promoting anything. ;-) It is indeed an interesting find with historical value. And in 1935-36 who knew what was coming?

"... rare Third Reich German book ADOLF HITLER - Bilder aus dem Leben des Führers (Adolf Hitler - Pictures of the Life of the Führer) as published in 1936 by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst in Altona-Bahrenfeld, Germany."

Besides that the Nazis during that time tried every way to support their ideologie it seems to have been more common to publish textbooks which were intended to be added wth pictures (not necessarily photographes).

I own a book "Deutsche Märchen" with tipped in printed pictures, which I have got from my mother. The book was promoted by a cigarrette factory and is absolutely free of propaganda.
In my youth there was another book about German history which was free of propaganda as well.

Cigarette pictures were first introduced in the USA by James Buchanan Duke, founder of American Tobacco (End of nineteenth century)

I liked these books because of their printed coloured pictures.

    when no audio is available

    .
a powerful German sewing machine is a fair substitute

it runs like ..well , a well engineered German machine

the quilters like this model as It'll go thru so many thicknesses.

    strong & quiet

    (and heavy ...31 pounds)

Oh yeah, quite an interesting (& rare) first edition book too.

biked down to my favorite "by the pound" emporium yesterday.

the days of cheap audio seem over. There was a Heathkit tuner, but I passed on that.

did find one of these ==>> https://www.amazon.com/Sony-DCR-HC52.../dp/B00123Q8VY

in the box, still had hang tags, all accessories. can't tell from new. think it may
have been display unit. charged overnight , works great

    weighed 2 pounds @ 1.79 per.

Denny Doherty once told me that when they were recording that song, they wanted a solo, but didn't want the usual guitar solo. John Phillips walked out into the hall of the Hollywood recording studio they were at and Bud Shank was in that hallway as well. John grabbed him and brought him into the studio. Shank listened to the hole he was supposed to fill and nailed it on the first take.

so it was in the 80's today (finally) ...I rode to a different salvage
place. Not much there , no audio , not even any clocks. BUT,
did pickup a brand new (never mounted or near water) reel from
    my past teen memories

Question Oh no, SW didn't buy another clock

    .
yeah, I looked at this in the store and couldn't make up my mind.

It's homemade from solid walnut (no veneers here), commercial movement, cable wound
(as opposed to cheaper chain wound) , lots of nice little extras , but it
was about 40 pounds (and it was a 91 degree day). No way was I going
to bungie that to the bike for a homeward bound trip.

I explained my delema to a VN Vet friend of mine at the store . No sweat , he says.
"We'll toss it and your bike into my little Subaru and I'll give you a ride
    back to your truck"

So I bought him lunch and we traded sea stories. Worked out well.

I've never seen a pendulum mount above the hands shaft, usually it's on the
rear of the movement to avoid the strike problem. This one has a brass circle so that the pendulum
actually goes around that hands shaft.

It's missing a support piece (abt $4) , no problem.

It was a labor of love from someones Grandpa (who had great woodworking skills)
to his grandson (inscription on back) .

It winds thru the face and the crank from my GrandFather clock fits. It also has a lock
on the door that opens with the same crank. The brass weight must be 10 pounds on it's own.

Think I'll strip it and stain the walnut a little darker.

OK, I've got the clock up and going ... been running 3 days now. Just cosmetics left to do.

Interesting pickup on the Safari today. A handmade somewhat rare preamp.

Made here in Portland. No ports labeled on the rear, no power connections (I thought it might be a passive).

fine condition, may be a keeper if I can figure out how to finish the wiring. Not much on
    the web on this critter.

from Google, it seems others with one are sticking on labels for ports, not just me. (middle pic)

** next day. opened it up (took abt an hour, bolts were really in tight) ... no caps, no transformers , completely passive. How does it do RIAA curve if no circuits ?

I didn't ride to salvage yesterday as it was 101 degrees.

A friend was there and picked up "The Eagles Songbook". They make them for every band .. Just lyrics & notes. Not worth much.

So this one is signed by all group members and then they each wrote some funny little comments and drew pics of each other. WOW. So he checks eBay. The same book with just sigs last sold for $900. He paid a quarter for it.

oh yeah, I got one of these things there today. https://www.cnet.com/products/logite...ny-880/review/

rode down to salvage today. HOT . Picked up something I thot would never see in a thrift. Pink Floyd ‎– Wish You Were Here - Immersion Box Set. Everything was there, even the marbles & coasters. All 5 disks. WOW. I always rate this album in my top 5 "Desert Island disks" when asked.
I have borrowed the immersion set for "Dark side of the Moon" and it was superb. Hope this is as good or better..

Friend came in early at GW , picked up a nice pair CS-88a's for $15.
Not much for me except a 1828 book that has no copies/info available on the web.

oh, and "Combat RocK" and "Atom Heart Mother" , on LP of course.
