I rode down to the "grab-a-rama" today. No audio gear, but kinda related.

Just barely missed it. A big home made 4 sided lampshade. The frame was used
and the fabric was replaced on all sides with 4 of these GS and The GS posters.

    Sure looked original.

If not all cut up, that poster may have had good value

I got tired of looking at this box, so started calling around to see what offers
    could be obtained.

Those "we buy gold & silver" places averaged about $70.

I took it to the local smelter. They got a more accurate weight of 7.35 oz.
Thot, well that may drop the price. Nope. They paid $89

    Thumbs up

staying in today (predicted 101 degrees) , but rode to salvage emporium yesterday . Didn't find much gear, but had an interesting conversation.

GW sells 4ftX4X4 (64cf) boxes of DVD's/Cd's. Box is sealed, so you are buying unseen and you can't keep the box. It's all got to be offloaded into your vehicle during business hours.

They move the box with a pallet jack off next to the bike rack in the parking lot.

So there was a buyer opening his new $100 purchase (they are always 100) . He had driven down from Seattle and was talkative.

Says there are abt 2,500 items in a box. 2/3'rds DVD and the rest CD's

We were discussing his business model. Sells at flea markets/garage sales ..etc.

Prices DVD's at $1 and with purchase you can pick out 5 CD's free. Buyers can't believe the great deal.

Usually makes back his investment in under an hour and then it's all gravy.

Does this 1 or 2x a month. Nets $1000-1500 or so from a box. Not bad. Has a normal job and so any of the unsalable items get donated back for an easy tax deduction.

I guess Maxell liked their JBL poster so much that they used the image
in other products .... VHS head cleaner

Not long ago I enjoyed the DVD of "Lawrence of Arabia" , so yesterday was surprised to grab a copy of "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" by T.E. Lawrence. It's a 1935 First Edition in great shape. The stories that the movie was based on.
Never know what I'm gonna find on my bike safari's.

I think so too, thx Lee.

checked Gw 3 days ago , not much there anymore. Been checking book rotations since other things have been so spare. Not much in books either.
As I was ready to leave, books came out again. Could see immediately lots of old ones. Filled up my free arm grabbing interesting copies.

Sat down and pared the lot to valuables.

bought 8 (about 30 pounds to load on the bike)

Guess there still are some deals out there ...

    .
just got this email from a friend...

Just scored some 120Ti's out at Hboro ($5 a piece) ... Need some 12" foams for them.

What's your availability ? When can I come by ?

Also deduced that your monster JBL's in your living room are 250 Ti's ... Am I right ?

gave him a call , no grilles of course, but he said cabs look good.

looks like he kinda liked them

Confessions of a 120Ti shameless SHIMMER

After initially gluing the inner ring(s), I couldn't find the "sweet spot" for the life-of-me (LOM) ...

So I joined the ranks of the Cutter/Shim-Shammers/Re-gluers and: (a) not all that hard to do, and (b) wow ! Does this woofer bug in and out sweetly and easily !

Found these woofers to have very tight clearances. Just as well that I shimmied.

    And the winner IS .......

Bookshelf Shmookshelf ... These guys fully fill my living room with ease and a nicely balanced top-to-bottom sound. Couldn't be more impressed and pleased.

Now, I don't want to use them, because they might get hurt ... Guess I'll have to use headphones forever more.

My enjoyment from the purchase of the ARCAM CD player has been well documented. It's great.

yesterday I'd biked down to the "grab-o-rama" as the electronics were coming out. I'll be ddarned, I see another ARCAM, tho this time it's a DiVA AVR300 Audio/Video Receiver.

    http://www.hometheatersound.com/equi...iva_avr300.htm

Heavy (36 pounds) and in fine shape . I carried it around in the cart for a while, but in the end just could not pull the trigger.

After reading this review today, maybe I should have bought it

The AVR300 sounded excellent in standard mode, but in biamped mode it sounded more like expensive separates than an A/V receiver. In some ways, I preferred the sound of the biamped AVR300 to that of my reference Anthem Statement D1 processor ($5000) and Bel Canto eVo6 power amplifier ($4290). With the biamped Arcam, images were more focused, the soundstage wider and deeper. Madonna’s Ray of Light, which sounded so amazing through the biamped AVR300, lost some of its authority and power when played through my reference separates. My references did counter with a slightly smoother, more natural sound -- especially vocals, which were slightly grainier through the Arcam. However, these differences were less apparent with multichannel music and movie soundtracks than with stereo sources. Overall, both systems sounded excellent, and each had its strengths. Considering that the Arcam costs less than a quarter of the Anthem plus Bel Canto, this is an incredible achievement.

    Dollars and sense

While at $2000 the Arcam DiVA AVR300 costs a lot more than a typical mass-market receiver, it costs considerably less than the massive "statement" receivers from such manufacturers as Denon and Sony. At its price or less you could even purchase inexpensive separates from, say, Outlaw or Emotiva. However, as I’ve said in the past, receivers make a lot of sense to a lot of people. Given the DiVA AVR300’s excellent multichannel and stereo sound, I can’t think of a better way to spend $2000 on home-theater electronics.

could have grabbed a big QSC amp yesterday, just was too slow.

GW has raised prices again, but in an odd quirk ..they dropped prices on electronics
to 69 cents a pound. At that rate I would have bought the ARCAM HT amp.

Installed a new center channel in the HT, but now can't see the monitor ..
