REFOAMING JBL 2235H 15" PROFESSIONAL WOOFERS

Hi, I would like help in knowing if there are any tests I can perform that would indicate
that I did a good job on my refoaming of my beloved JBL 2235H 15" Woofers...Any help would be apreciated..Joe (I had the voice coils checked out ahead of time and the professional said they were fine).

You can hook them up to a signal generator and sweep them yourself to listen for any voice coil rubbing.

Look at them to see if the refoamer did the job with the foam on the backside of the cone.

You can install them in the cabinets and light em up. See if they "sing and swing"

Return to your refoamer and ask them to show you by sweeping them in your presence.

Not being an ass, just offering suggestions.

    Scott.

    JBL Refoam 2235H

Hi Scott, I did hook them up and they do sing! No rubbing that I can tell. I also noticed that the foam is on the front side. Not the back. But, the sound is still excellent, like listening to a great pair of headphones. Very accurate and musical.

Blasphemey! A real pro would never do that to a 2235.

But...I see eBay auctions constantly, stating that a reconed JBL is done with JBL parts and they're clearly not.

I just reread your post and noticed that you did the refoam your self. Please excuse my passion for this refoam fauxpas.

There's lots of extensive and deep discussion here on this subject...heated at times.

Cleaning the old foam off the back of the cone makes for a more tedious job, but it's the right way to do it from all standpoints, both performance wise and cosmetic.

JBL doesn't sanction refoams...only complete recones.

JBL does admit that when a recone kit is no longer available the best practice is to do it as originally manufactured.
