    2213 to replace 128H

Hello all, I was wondering if the 2213 could be used as a replacement for a 128H in the JBL L112 speaker? I read some hwere that a 2214 is the same as a 128H so where does the 2213 fit in? I can see that soon it will be time to refoam the surround on the 128H's and since the 2213 won't ever need this repair I just wondered if it would sound OK, the same, near to a 128H. The 2213 has the same white cone as the 128H in the L112's so I thought I'd ask you guys what you thought. So, what say you? Cheers, Frank

Result: I very much like the altered bass, although it's a bit boomy; I've yet to enhance the damping with heavy fill as I did with L88s to optimize the alignment.

I'm not suggesting anyone do this with L100t3s, just reporting it, but I believe it's good enough that I'll be asking John to build both vented and closed-box versions of the cabinets for listening comparisons....

    Thought this may be interesting.

As far as I know, the 128H is much shallower, (flatter cone), than the 2214H.

Yes, the 2213 will fit into the baffle - the basket diameter and hole spacings are identical.

That said, I'd gladly swap your 128H's for all the 2213's I can scrounge up - the 128H is a better transducer...

L112 is a more "evolved" design than its predecessors using 123A(-x)/2213(H). 128H is in there for reasons, no doubt. Compare the T/S parameters.

I'm not above swappin' stuff, and nobody's lost an eye over me doing it yet, but I can't ever pretend it's the same or better with respect to the original design intent.

I recently bought a new pair of 2213H for closed-box project speakers. There's far better applications for them than avoiding a $30 refoam task every 15 - 20 years in L112s....

All three drivers are different. The 128H and 2214H are different.

2213 isn't even close. Of these three drivers the only one that has an identical counterpart is the 2213 whose evil twin the 123A-3.

Alas, they will all fit each others mounting, though.
