Bookshelf speaker suggestions?

I recently aquired a Sony TA-AX285 integrated amplifier. I can't find any documentation on it anywhere, but it has a total wattage of 175 with 4 channels, so I'm assuming it will be about 35-40 watts per channel. (I could be wrong?)

Anyway, I'm planning to connect it to a PC sound card via a Y cable, so I'm looking for a pair of decent 8 Ohm bookshelf speakers that will sound okay with 35-40 watts per channel. Mountable would be great, but they don't have to be. Any suggestions?

L20T or L20T3 are great bookshelf speakers, and show up on eBay often. 2-way, with a 6.5" LF. 4406/4406A is the studio version.

If you're looking for something larger, L40T and 4408/4408A use an 8" LF.

How large is "bookshelf" to you?

You can get a pair of KRK ST-6s at Guitar Center or online for $200. Very good quality and good sound for this type (small cone & dome) speaker. Robust tonal balance with no earwire and good clarity.

6.5" alunimum woofer and silk dome. 7/8" thick cabinet, very stout. IME&O there are "audiophile" speakers that cost much more that don't sound as good.

I used them when I lived in a high-rise, now they do surround speaker duty.

My mains are actually L80T's, I should have thought of the L20Ts. >.< They'd match!

As far as size...as long as they aren't the size of my L80T's, (ie: Not floorstanding) then it's fine. My only concern with bookshelf speakers is using 2-ways when I'm used to my 3-ways... I listen to a *lot* of classical music...and Nine Inch Nails... and I'm afraid 2-ways will sound disappointing in comparison.

I've been able to do a little research since the last time I posted... does anyone have any experience with the P30s? I don't think I've ever heard them... But the idea of relatively small 3 way bookshelfs is really nice.

Hi!

In my experience, I have run across 2 bookshelf speakers that stand above all others I've heard. They are both vintage speakers and both can be had for a song. The first was my dad's old Electro Voice model EV Seven which sound as good as they look and I see consistently on ebay being passed over. These you could probably get for under $50. Second is the "Smaller ADVENTS", which are quite amazing. My roommate who is a sound engineer uses these in his bedroom system, 4 of them actually. Would those be a good rear match to my L-112 fronts? I have my eye on some L46's but they are getting expensive for rears.
