    Question JBL LE15A Recones

I'm trying to clarify if the 2 LE15A recones that I just purchased have good JBL recone kits in them. Serial Numbers 20579 & 20581 Here's what's stated on the back of the cones:

    Handwritten LE15A
    Handwritten date of 5-19-87
    Handwritten date of 5-20-87
Handwritten Initials of EF Also M

    Stamped Number 50319

    Any Help would be appreciated.

    Thx, Bill

Your description sounds fine to me. A picture would really be needed to confirm, but far more importantly, a recone kit that was made in 1987 is 20 years old and will have a surround that needs to be replaced. I would recommend getting new kits.

    Juergen,

The serial numbers fit the bill from the link:

LE15A rated at 8 ohms, cone marked 21315, gray frame
    serial number 9117 to 29149

I still can't tell if they are JBL recones or not. If figure that these are from 76-77. So, what I'm trying to figure out is how JBL kits were marked in the mid to late 80's. If they were from the past say, 10 years or so, they would have the little white stick on with the kit numbers, etc.

    thx, bill

    Widget,

I haven't tested these out yet. They just came in yesterday. The surrounds still look good. They still seem to have a lot of cushion to them. These may have sat in JBL boxes for years. I can't really tell. That's sort of what I'm being told? But the surrounds still feel new. I have some 2235's that definitely need some new surrounds, but these still seem to be in really good shape, like maybe they did sit in a box for a long time?

    thx, bill

I am sure they have sat in their boxes for the past twenty years... they are still old and will likely crumble soon. I'd be surprised if you got more than a year or two out of them.

    I would like to know

I have A PAIR OF LE15A'S with the original cones and white rubber edge roles. I try ed them out with a sound source with no box and even with the speakers out of the box I felt that they would sound decent. I only wish that somebody could tell me what the frequency response should be.
