how hard would it be to build 4315's

Hello,

I saw the ebay listing that recently went for just over $2000. I was wondering how much it would cost, and if it would be practical to attempt to make a DIY version of these. I already have 077 tweeters and the alnico LE5's that I could use.

Search for 4315 here and I think you'll find that the 2108 midbass drivers for them are extremely hard to come by, and apparently the correct 12s are also rare. Why not pick a more contemporary design?

you have come to right place for help. There are some brilliant people here willing to help with Diy projects.

What is it about the 4315 that has caught your interest ? What qualities are you looking for in a monitor? Budget, what is it ? Also , what is your skill base, cabinet making , electical ?
Heather is spot on . There are other designs for which components are far more avaliable.

The 077 is a fantastic place to start. Check out Heather's 4341's in the library here on the forum. The hardest thing to find is the 10" mid, but the recone kits are still avaliable.

Unfortunately they would be very hard becasue the 12" 2203 diaphrams are no longer available. You can't get a core and recone which really limits you. The 2108 are also hard to find but at least there were cone kits for them a couple of months ago. You might want to look into an LE-14 based system is space is an issue and you wanted a "compact" monitor.

While the 108 and 2203 are both near impossible to find, the contemporary 8" ( 108H ) version can be made by reconing the easy to find 2118H frame.

The 108H is the 2118 cone kit with aquaplas added to the cone ( for mass ) so possibly a small mass ring could be applied to an existing 2118? I have no idea what the mass difference is though.

Some years ago I purchased a pair of 4315's that were stripped and converted them into L250Ti's for a relative but I did keep the crossovers and plates...

And I did salvage a set of 2203 cones and had them refoamed and installed in frames...

The 108H's are available at JBL's consumer site. Not quite the same driver though. The mass difference is 4 grams.
