    SET experience

I'm new to the forum and just inherited a pair of C38 cabinets with a 'system 30' configuration (D130 16 ohm;075 16 ohm;N2600,16-32 ohm switchable crossover). Do any members have experience driving these with single ended triodes? What's the best 16 ohm tapped SET out there? Would an 8 ohm tap work?

Any thoughts on the stock crossover? Should I refurbish the N2600 with new components (caps, pot, etc)?

This system is very good for the use with SE triodes Amps. If the amplifier a 16Ohm transducer exit has is naturally better it than a 8 ohm exit. Triodes do not take it however contrary to Penthoden badly if you the 16 ohm loudspeakers to a 8Ohm transducer exit attach. You receive somewhat less power with smaller distortion factor. To the other questions you still kompetetentere persons answers to certainly give. Excuse my bad English is from on-line translater.

My experience with JBL 2226 and SET amps

My reliable "on call" system uses 2226J and GP 902 (8 ohm) drivers on 811B or Edgar tractix horns (650hz round poplar).

I use Wayne Parhams (Pi Speaker forum - audiorountable main forum) and crossover the high freq drivers at 1.6khz 3rd order w/passive HF EQ.

The 2226 uses only a .7mh coil (8 Ohm) and 1.4mh (16 ohm) inductor in series to match up.

2 resistors and a cap makeup the HF EQ for the horn/driver.

I have used 45/2A3/300B SET amps set up for 8 ohms and find the 2226J sounds better to me than the 2226H. The output transformer will load back to the triode with only minimal loss of efficiency compared to solid state where the power delivered with twice the impedance halves.

    Just my 2 cents worth!

PS: I have E-130's also and they work well with the SET amps, but still investigating best crossover point to lose the "shoutiness".

At 105db/watt, these only need about a half a watt to fill the room!!!!!
    JBL Pro for home use!
